Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Senior Attorney, the advocate assists clients with education, information, referrals, and problem resolution regarding health care access and service problems. The advocate also answers a telephone hotline and participates in outreach activities. We are dedicated to providing equal access to justice through quality legal services. #justicebeginshere Essential Functions: Conduct initial and follow-up interviews with applicants and clients in the office, via phone, and at outreach locations. Prepare forms and gather documentation. Perform basic factual investigations and legal research. Prepare memorandums and correspondence. Develop and maintain relationships with healthcare providers and government/social service agencies. Answer hotline calls. Assist with community outreach and education. Perform additional duties as requested by the attorney, consistent with abilities and service needs. Ensure compliance with all program and grant requirements. Qualifications: B.A. degree, or A.A. degree plus a recognized paralegal certificate, or equivalent experience demonstrating strong writing, verbal, reading, analytical, and research skills. Ability to gather and complete information from clients via telephone or in person. Ability to respond to clients in a calm, empathetic, and professional manner. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing caseloads and meeting deadlines. Reliable transportation required. Strong organizational skills. Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Fluency in written and spoken Spanish preferred. Experience as an advocate, including intake, interviews, and legal research. Experience in client service, understanding of legal systems, laws, and regulations. Commitment to serving low-income populations. Ability to work effectively with diverse backgrounds. Pay and Benefits: The position is non-exempt, hourly, with a pay range of $21.98 - $26.93, starting at $25.28 per hour. Bilingual pay increases are available. Benefits include paid vacation and sick leave, employer-paid health insurance, dental, vision, life insurance, retirement options, law school loan repayment, and eligibility for PSLF.
