Job Summary The RN Charge Nurse plays a crucial role in overseeing the operations of the nursing unit during assigned shifts, ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care. This position includes supervising nursing staff, coordinating care with healthcare teams, and maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations and hospital policies, all while fostering a supportive work environment that encourages professional development. Essential Functions: Supervise and support nursing and support staff, effectively delegating tasks and responsibilities. Evaluate staff performance, providing constructive feedback and coaching to maintain high standards of care. Oversee the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care, ensuring adherence to care plans. Collaborate with healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care and address issues related to patient flow and care delivery. Promote effective communication among physicians, patients, families, and hospital departments, managing shift handovers and unit meetings efficiently. Monitor patient flow, manage bed assignments, and optimize resource utilization within the unit. Conduct employee and patient rounding to assess care delivery and satisfaction levels. Ensure compliance with safety standards, infection control protocols, and hospital policies, addressing any non-compliance promptly. Engage in quality improvement initiatives and audits to enhance patient outcomes and maintain regulatory compliance. Ensure the availability and proper utilization of necessary medical supplies while maintaining cost-effective resource management. Facilitate ongoing education and professional development for nursing staff, addressing training needs effectively. Lead infection prevention efforts by conducting audits, educating staff, and ensuring adherence to hygiene and sterilization protocols. Respond to emergencies within the unit, providing leadership and direct care as needed. Perform other duties as assigned and comply with all policies and standards. Qualifications: 1-2 years of clinical nursing experience required. Prior leadership or charge nurse experience preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong clinical knowledge and ability to manage complex patient care. Effective communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with interdisciplinary teams. Leadership and mentoring skills to inspire staff and create a positive working environment. Capability to assess, prioritize, and manage multiple patients and tasks efficiently. Proficiency in using hospital information systems and clinical documentation tools. Understanding of infection control protocols, safety standards, and quality improvement practices. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills for navigating unit challenges and emergencies. Licenses and Certifications: RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure required. BCLS - Basic Life Support required. ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support preferred.
