CERTIFIED OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY ASSISTANT
Qualifications: Associate's Degree from an accredited institution. A PA License for Occupational Therapy Assistant and Certification as an Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy. Essential Responsibilities:
To assist with the provision of occupational therapy services under the direction and supervision of the Occupational Therapist Registered/Licensed (OTR/L). Responsibilities:
Provide assistance to the OTR/L with assessment and reassessment of fine and gross motor development, self-help skills and sensory-motor integration according to accepted standardized and non-standardized assessment tools. Assist the OTR/L(s) in setting goals and making recommendations as an outcome of the evaluation process; participate in the Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) development process as requested by the OTR/L. Develop and disseminate service schedule(s); schedule and provide treatment. Plan and deliver occupational therapy treatment as recommended by the OTR/L(s) to specified children/students in individual or small group sessions. Areas of treatment include: oral motor development; sensory processing strategies; gross and fine motor development; feeding programs; prevocational activities; and activities of daily living. Serves as a team member, providing integrated therapy and/or coaching whenever possible. Assist and guide parents/guardians to carry-over, as much as possible, occupational therapy programs into the home environment through coaching. Serve as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program to increase and maintain functional activities of daily living and playing. Keep thorough on-going records for students receiving occupational therapy. Assist and guide teachers in adapting functional daily living activities for students. Assist in the identification of equipment needs, including the ordering and distribution of adaptive equipment. Construct or adapt equipment to include splints, wheelchairs, and other adaptive equipment under the supervision of an OTR/L. Assist in proper referral of students to agencies and specialists in the community. Participate in transition to preschool and transition to kindergarten meetings as assigned. Assist in providing information, coaching, support and counseling to parents and families when appropriate. Maintain accurate data collection and documentation so as to fully evaluate and substantiate program and pupil progress. Comply with federal, state and local laws, standards, regulations and policies pertaining to special education students. Complete all required paperwork via HCSIS, STAR, ACCESS billing, and progress monitoring reporting within required timelines. Seek out and maintain all training and education to adhere to requirements of the position and to provide current practices in the field. Attend and participate in staff and team meetings as indicated. Assume any other responsibilities as assigned by the Supervisor, OTR/L or his/her designee. Program/Classification:
