Position Overview:

To take charted documentation and turn it into a well aligned code-set to send to our payor's. Identify trends and opportunities for improvements while providing coding expertise and feedback to surgical staff -

Full Time (Remote) Monday through Friday Days Surgery Coder Responsibilities : Utilize technical coding principals and reimbursement rules to assign appropriate ICD-10 diagnosis and CPT procedures including understanding all elements in Ortho Surgery coding. Regularly communicates with the healthcare provider to ensure documentation and coding reflects care rendered. Supports healthcare provider education in areas of CMS regulations, coding, billing, documentation and administrative guidelines. Manages assigned provider workload Communicates trends in coding and documentation to manager for assigned providers Monitor documentation and coding practices to identify and follow up on potential coding related compliance issues and/or missed revenue potential. Maintain current knowledge base in all aspects of CPT, HCPCS, and ICD -10-CM coding. Keep abreast of all current billing and coding rules and regulations affecting government and non-government payers and distributes information to appropriate individuals as needed. Reviews and research coding/billing issues, including but not limited to, rejection reports and claim denials. Perform regular analysis of the impact of coding on reimbursement and identifies trends and opportunities for improvements. Adhere to compliance regulations while performing all duties detailed. Other duties as assigned. Education:

High school diploma or equivalent required. Credentialed as Certified Orthopedic Surgery Coder (COSC) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) with minimum 2-year experience required. Skills assessment maybe required determining competency level of coding skills.

Experience:

Two (2) years of Orthopedic Surgery Coding experience required. Experience in Foot & Ankle, Podiatry, Hand, and Spine surgical coding a plus.

Skills and Knowledge:

Demonstrates knowledge of HCPCS, ICD-10 and CPT coding guidelines, medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology. Ability to accurately code diagnosis, diagnostic and surgical procedures with a depth of knowledge in Orthopedic Surgery coding. Knowledge of legal, regulatory, and policy compliance issues related to medical coding and documentation. Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills. Research skills including knowledge of automated analysis tools and on-line research tools to resolve complex coding issues. Demonstrates ability to effectively work within a team environment, using excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills to share findings and compliance issues with coders, office managers, physicians, etc. Maintains confidentiality and protects sensitive data.
