At NorthBay Health, the Coder I is a member of the Health Information Management Team responsible for converting diagnoses and procedures for emergency and outpatient cases into ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes in an accurate and timely manner. The Coder I can understand the clinical content of the health record and utilize an EHR system/encoder to perform job duties. Abstracts demographic and physician data to meet both internal and regulatory requirements for reporting utilizing the hospitals abstracting system. All work is carried out in accordance with the rules, regulations, and coding conventions of the American Hospital Association (Coding Clinic), ICD, CMS, HCAI, and NorthBay Health coding guidelines. Education: High School diploma or equivalent preferred. Certification: Requires one of the following credentials: Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) in good standing. Experience: Two or more years of experience coding ICD-10/CPT in an HIM department in an acute care hospital is preferred. Experience with electronic health records/encoder systems required. Skills: Knowledge of anatomy and physiology; medical terminology, disease process, reimbursement methodologies (DRGs, HCCs, APCs); and the conventions, rules, guidelines for current coding classifications (ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS). Understanding of the clinical content of health records. Proficiency with computer hardware and software, including Microsoft Office (Email, Word, Excel). Ability and desire to meet performance metrics upon training. Technically savvy with ability to learn software and troubleshoot equipment. Must have a private, distraction-free workspace at home for work (HIPAA compliant). Webcam training will be used frequently for team engagement. Days, Monday through Friday, as assigned based on business need. Compensation:
