A growing hospital cardiac surgery program in Mason City, Iowa, is seeking a Locum Cardiac Anesthesiologist to provide coverage during select weeks throughout 2025. This hospital-based role involves primarily cardiac anesthesia cases, with additional general anesthesia responsibilities when no cardiac cases are scheduled.

Practice Setting: Hospital-based with occasional coverage at Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) if needed
Trauma Level: II
EMR: Cerner (transitioning to EPIC), some paper documentation
Surgical Volume:
Cardiac surgeries approx. 1/day (not every day)
General anesthesia cases 5-7/day
Operating Rooms: 8 in use concurrently
Patient Demographics: Adolescent to geriatric; critically ill pediatric patients transferred elsewhere
Staffing: 6 anesthesiologists in practice, solo cases predominately, with CRNA students rotating through
Call Model: Supervision/direction by partners if applicable
Provide anesthesia care for cardiac surgery patients and general surgical cases as needed
Interpret and bill for Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE) procedures (placement alone is insufficient)
Collaborate with surgical and anesthesia teams to ensure patient safety and quality care
Supervise and work alongside CRNA students in the operating room
Board Certified (preferred) or Board Eligible in Cardiac Anesthesiology
Active Iowa medical license or IMLC
TEE certification with the ability to read, interpret, and bill procedures
Cardiac anesthesia fellowship preferred; extensive experience considered if TEE certified
BLS, ACLS, PALS certifications
