Job Summary:
Our client is seeking a SOLR Developer with deep expertise in Apache SOLR to drive the search platform development and optimization. While SOLR is our primary focus, our client is also planning a future evolution towards Elasticsearch, so experience with both is a plus. In this role, you will work on building, optimizing, and maintaining search solutions for product-based and location-based search functionalities. You'll play a key part in scaling and improving the search capabilities, ensuring high performance and relevance. Over time, you will also contribute to the migration strategy toward Elasticsearch. This is a hybrid opportunity located in Atlanta, GA!
Duties:
Design, develop, and optimize Apache SOLR search solutions for our platform Implement search relevancy tuning, query performance improvements, and indexing strategies Work on scalability, clustering, and replication for high-availability search solutions Collaborate with developers and product teams to integrate and enhance search capabilities Troubleshoot search-related performance issues and implement solutions Provide insights and recommendations for a future migration to Elasticsearch while maintaining SOLR as the current priority
Desired Skills/Experience:
5+ years of experience in search technologies, with a strong focus on Apache SOLR Hands-on experience in SOLR schema design, query optimization, faceting, and indexing strategies Some experience with Elasticsearch and a willingness to contribute to a gradual migration Strong understanding of search algorithms, ranking, and relevance tuning Experience in handling large-scale search implementations with high query volume Knowledge of cloud search solutions and how SOLR integrates into modern search architectures Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment Experience progressing into roles such as Senior Developer, Lead Developer, or Staff Lead Familiarity with cloud-based search architectures (AWS, GCP, or Azure Exposure to machine learning or AI-driven search enhancements is a bonus Familiarity with programming languages like Java, Python, or other backend technologies is a plus
