Overview
Mailchimp's mission is to help small and mid-sized businesses grow through better marketing, data, and automation. As we accelerate toward a future where Mailchimp is the most extensible and developer-friendly marketing platform, we're hiring a Principal Product Manager to lead our public API strategy and developer experiences.
In this role, you'll define and drive the strategy and roadmap for how Mailchimp externalizes its core capabilities - through modern, reliable RESTful APIs, robust developer tooling, and clear governance standards. You'll shape the end-to-end experience for third-party developers and partners, working closely with engineering, design, developer relations, and GTM to ensure our platform is easy to integrate with, trustworthy, and built to scale.
This is a high-impact, cross-functional leadership role focused on API product design, developer enablement, and platform extensibility.
What you'll bring
8-10+ years of product management experience, with a deep focus on APIs, developer platforms, or technical integrations
Proven success launching developer-facing products (e.g. public APIs, SDKs, OAuth, scoped access, developer portals)
Strong technical fluency in how modern web services are built and consumed (REST, OAuth 2.0, scopes, rate limiting, logging/ observability, sandboxing, versioning)
Excellent stakeholder collaboration, especially across engineering, design, legal, and partnerships
Experience owning roadmaps that span both near-term delivery and long-term platform evolution
Passionate about developer experience -- you think in terms of friction, onboarding, scale and delight
Familiarity with marketing technology, customer data platforms, or integration, frameworks a strong plus
Undergraduate degree in a technical or business- related field required; MBA or advanced degree a plus. Equivalent work experience considered.
How you will lead

Own Mailchimp's API externalization strategy - deciding what services to expose, to whom, and how they align with business and partner priorities.
Govern and improve the developer experience, focusing on intuitive onboarding, clear documentation, versioning policies, authentication, observability, and support.
Redesign the Mailchimp developer portal to better serve third-party developers - including onboarding flows, usage insights, API changelogs, and feedback loops.
Establish API governance standards, including version control, change management, SLA monitoring, and partner onboarding protocols.
Partner with Tech Partnerships and Developer Relations to support the external dev ecosystem - running programs, capturing feedback, and enabling third-party success.
Clarify and enforce API scope and access policies to maintain security, compliance, and customer trust.
Act as a product evangelist - internally and externally - advocating for developer needs, showcasing use cases, and resolving integration pain points.
Measure and optimize developer platform success, including adoption, time to first integration, and developer satisfaction
