Job Description:
The ideal candidate will lead U.S. military Modeling & Simulation (M&S) efforts with senior-level responsibilities in the design, development, integration, and maintenance of complex simulation systems used for training, analysis, and decision support in defense environments at our Suffolk, Virginia headquarters. The candidate will serve as a technical leader, making critical software architecture decisions, mentoring development teams, and driving innovation in simulation technologies. This role requires extensive experience in software engineering and deep understanding of military systems, simulation standards, and advanced real-time/constructive simulations.
The candidate performs the following specific assignments:
Leads the design, implementation, and maintenance of complex simulation software for military training and analysis
Makes critical software architecture decisions and leads technical design reviews
Drives integration of models and simulations with advanced C4ISR systems, data sources, and external interfaces using DIS, HLA, DDS, and emerging protocols
Translates complex operational military requirements into highly scalable and reusable software architectures
Develops and validates advanced simulation scenarios, models, and system behaviors to meet stringent fidelity and performance requirements
Leads collaboration with systems engineers, subject matter experts (SMEs), and military users to validate and verify complex simulation capabilities
Ensures compliance with advanced software development standards, security guidelines, and configuration management practices
Authors comprehensive technical documentation, including architecture specifications, design documents, and research papers
Mentors and provides technical leadership to development teams
Drives innovation in M&S technologies and recommends emerging solutions
Leads system integration efforts and complex troubleshooting activities
Conducts advanced requirements analysis and leads system design activities
Represents SimIS in technical discussions with customers and stakeholders
Experience Required:
Ph.D. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field
OR Master's degree with 7+ years of relevant software development experience
At least 5 years of software development experience, with at least 3 years in the M&S domain
Expert-level proficiency in multiple programming languages: C++, C#, Java, Python
Extensive experience with simulation frameworks such as HLA, DIS, OneSAF, JSAF, VBS, and emerging M&S technologies
Deep knowledge of DoD M&S standards and tools (STOW, RTI, SISO standards)
Experience Desired:
Research experience in advanced modeling and simulation techniques
Extensive knowledge of military doctrine, tactics, and operational scenarios
Experience with advanced GIS, terrain databases, and synthetic environment generation
Expertise in containerization technologies (OpenShift, Docker, Kubernetes)
Experience with cloud platforms and distributed simulation environments
Published research in M&S or related fields
Experience leading technical teams and mentoring developers
Advanced knowledge of AI/ML applications in simulation
