General Description of Duties General Description of Duties

Obtains authorized vehicle, daily route instructions and assigned inmate workers (working trusties) to collect, transport, and deliver food donations and produce for use at the Corrections facility. Assists and guides inmates in the safe and timely loading and unloading of food items. Must be able to repeatedly lift products weighing 50-75 pounds. Assists in the Food Service Section when not driving and helps to maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of the warehouse.

Ability to maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public. Ability to be a self-starter, while working well in a strong team environment. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to take criticism and verbal abuse from inmates and their visitors without reacting in a negative manner and project an image of self-confidence and control. Ability to react quickly and calmly to emergency situations, make effective decisions when in stressful situations and circumstances. Ability to use initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines. Ability to prepare and maintain maintenance records including technical manuals, parts inventory and repair records. Ability to prioritize work. Knowledge of the facility layout including location of sally port controls, cell locks, control panels, secure perimeters, and emergency and safety equipment commonly used in a secure facility. Knowledge of how to search/inspect for and recognize contraband/weapons or unauthorized activities. Skill in searching/inspecting materials and facilities for contraband/weapons and unauthorized activities. Skill in safe operation of heavy-duty vehicles, tractors, trailers, and refrigeration units. Tasks and Policies

Maintains control of the vehicle in all situations, adhering to all traffic laws as indicated by call classification and as required by job. Provides information, assistance, and services to the general public, employees, and others in person, by telephone or by other forms of communication. Maintains accurate records of office files, libraries and inventory files. Observes, documents, and reports any unusual changes in inmate behavior pursuant to FMJS requirements and in accordance with agency policies. Notifies designated persons immediately during an emergency situation, accurately describing the situation and location pursuant to FMJS requirements and in accordance with agency policies. Instructs and guides inmates on the safe use, care and proper return of necessary equipment and tools to perform daily tasks. Instructs and guides inmates in proper use of safety equipment. Ensures daily work is performed according to productivity and schedule expectations and in accordance with prescribed agency procedures, security and safety policies. Assists and guides the safe loading and off-loading of supplies and equipment. Inspects all incoming items for hidden contraband/weapons consistent with FMJS regulations and agency policies and procedures. Prioritizes maintenance and/or delivery requests based on urgency, safety concerns, available resources/supplies, and other pertinent criteria. Successfully completes all assignments to specifications, within specified timeframe and budget as directed and in accordance with agency policies and regulations. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications

Minimum of a 10th grade education required. Valid Class A Commercial Driver License. (CDL) is required. Must pass MCSO 8-hour Driver Improvement Course. Ability to lift 75 lbs. is required.
