Position Summary
Located 45 minutes from the Nation's Capital, nestled in a history-rich community of southern Maryland, The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) is a two-time Aspen Award-winning institution (top 15% of Community Colleges) with academic programs in over 100 disciplines. The Systems Administrator is one of the department's technical experts for Networking and Data-communications Systems. The Systems Administrator manages, maintains, and administers the college's Network Servers and Environment. The individual in this position maintains the operational aspects of all network systems to ensure that the College's network assets are ready for use, provides network administration services, server installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance. Additionally, the Systems Administrator provides support and oversight for network Cloud-based services, maintains the college's telecommunication cable plant (both fiber and copper based) with proper documentation. The Systems Administrator reports to the Director of Network Security. The hiring salary for this position will be from the min to mid-point of the salary range. This position is open until filled. Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
Develops, implements, and maintains with proper authorization a plan for proactive maintenance, upgrade and replacement of network hardware and software components that is integrated into the college's ITC Technology Infrastructure Plan. Provides ERP (Colleague and ancillary systems) server and client software deployment, configuration, management, and maintenance. Works with the department's other staff to develop and implement disaster recovery plans and procedures. Assists in the coordination of IMT disaster recovery plans. Executes network and telecommunications disaster recovery plans and procedures as required. Closely coordinates activities with other IMT technical personnel, and technology end-users to ensure the delivery of reliable telecommunications and data communications services. Contributes to the college strategic planning efforts and helps develop and implement college technology plans. Provides documentation for departmental monthly and annual reports. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of available and emerging network, server, and cloud technologies. Evaluates and makes appropriate recommendations for both evolutionary and revolutionary changes and improvements to the college's network infrastructure. Performs backup/recovery of the Colleges systems. Recommends, configures, and maintains network tools to measure the status of core systems. Provides first and second level user technical support. Additional Duties:
Performs other related work as required. Minimum Education and Training
Associate degree or equivalent training in a computer/technology related field Two years of full-time experience in Windows server administration, VMWare server administration, or M365 system administration. Minimum of one Industry certification in (Network+, Server+, or other associated certifications). Minimum Qualifications and Standards Required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to work with a complex virtual environment. Knowledge of Storage Area Networks. Ensure security is integrated into all services. Excellent communications (written and oral), customer service and problem-solving skills. Ensures that systems are kept up to date and properly secured based on industry best practices. Ability to adapt quickly to changing technology. Ability to translate technical terms for non-technical persons. Experience in a technical team environment. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
The work is sedentary work which requires exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly. General Employment Information
