Responsibilities The Senior Software Engineer is responsible for designing and implementing complex software features, mentoring junior engineers, and contributing to architectural decisions. This role involves developing new software applications, performing database analysis, and engaging in application programming to support business goals and objectives. The Senior Software Engineer will assist in standardizing quality assurance procedures, oversee testing activities, and help resolve software defects. Additionally, this role includes developing and maintaining system documentation, troubleshooting system and workflow issues, and supporting the design, engineering, implementation, and maintenance of business-critical information systems.

Develop, test, implement and maintain business software applications and databases

Generate code conforming to the design specification provided for new project development

Modify existing source to realize change requests, continuous improvement, and/or bug fixes

Locate and correct identified program errors

Execute unit tests on new code and code changes in accordance with specified test plans

Clearly and concisely document code additions, code changes, test procedures & results and all other work performed

Leverage advanced analytical skills for evaluating improvements to process and system flow

Analyze, manage and manipulate robust data models

Execute various programming and database deliverables

Leverage advanced front-end application and back-end database construction skills to ensure the end to end operation and integrity of the application

Utilize advanced database skills (Stored Procs, triggers, inner/outer joins, Data Modeling, etc.)

Identify opportunities to improve both the development approach and the integrity and quality of the final product

Employ quality control checks throughout the development process

Implement robust test methodologies and automation

Coordinate with user departments to define system problems and enhancements

Perform periodic systems analyst duties to support the development of required specifications using database systems to resolve end user requests

Analyze existing workflow for efficiency; recommend and implement needed changes including PC and network system

control; balance procedures for current and future systems as assigned

Provide in-house education for end user systems as needed

Provide counsel and assist team members and business partners as needed

Carry out procedures for handling system changes and enhancements

Collaborate with Project Manager, users, and Information Technology team in defining project deliverables including definition, database programming, issue resolution, testing and implementation

Provide weekly project status reports as requested

Assist in supporting existing applications as required

May perform other functions as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum 5 years’ experience: software development, platform migration and deployments, software installation and configuration, source control management processes, and maintenance and support of the above-mentioned Microsoft technologies and platforms.

Fundamental working knowledge of C# (MVC), ASP.NET, AJAX, Web Services, SOA, HTML, CSS, HTTP, JavaScript, JSON, JQUERY, XML, SQL Server, SQL Reporting and Analysis Services, Visual Studio, DB2, C+, Data Modeling, Web Browsers, Data Management, Security, and Administration, Internet Technologies, software development practices and processes including but not limited to the Microsoft set Products and development tools. Knowledgeable in the usage and support of various other standard as well as open-source desktop and server applications in support of the property and casualty insurance business professional. Proficient in various types of computer and communication technological hardware.

Recent work experience in Angular 10 and/or IBM Integration Bus (IIB) is a plus.

Change and problem management practices, processes and procedures as defined within ITIL, Business Continuity Planning and Disaster Recovery, Physical and Data Security.

Knowledge of Property and Casualty Insurance terms, workflow, and processes

Any level of Guidewire is a plus.

Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology preferred or prior commensurate experience/training
