The job of Network Engineer is done for the purpose/s of having responsibility for the overall design, implementation, management, security and maintenance of Networking Components throughout the District. Designs and supports Networking systems and supporting software. Provides support for day-today operation of network functionality with diverse networks. Train technical staff on deployment methods, network troubleshooting, best practices. Ensure security compliance of servers and workstations in accordance with Information Technology guidelines. Write test plans, integration plans, and guides for technologies and services being deployed. Participates in planning new network systems and services, analyzing impact on existing resources. Maintain support contracts of network hardware. Participates in making key decisions in relation to updating network devices, virus protection, new technology deployment, and maintaining existing District serve

Essential Functions:

Administers district policies regarding use of computers and data access (e.g. updating Directory Service Client and Email Client, set passwords, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring compliance with district policy and departmental guidelines. Designs computer networks (e.g. internet, intranet, email, services, content filtering, directory services, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring effective and efficient systems. Develops user job aids and on-line library of supplemental instructions for the purpose of enhancing staff ability to utilize computer software applications. Installs and configures Apple, Novel, Linux and PC servers, etc. for the purpose of ensuring availability and resources for use by District personnel. Interacts with the District network for the purpose of installing, configuring and troubleshooting work stations clients, routers, switches and servers. Maintains a variety of manual and electronic files and/or records (e.g. permission levels, network identification, security access, licenses, work logs, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing reference and audit trails. Maintains workstation and server functionality (e.g. suggests patches and/or upgrades, support Directory Services and Email Services, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability of desktop and server functionality for all users. Maintains network operations and software applications (e.g. servers, District backups, disaster recovery, routine maintenance, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring efficient and effective systems and operations. Monitors the status of the District wide area networks and site level local area networks for the purpose of ensuring availability of network files and peripheral devices. Participates in meetings, workshops and/or trainings for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions. Performs initial server and router set-ups (e.g. installation, testing, configuring, assigning passwords, security clearances, imaging, etc.) for the purpose of meeting the basic computer processing needs ofthe users. Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g. procedures, documentation, reports, memos, letters, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information. Provides training and inservice in general computer use and/or security, software applications, and file server operations for the purpose of ensuring the efficient use of computers and/or software application. Researches current and emerging technologies for the purpose of improving District functioning. Researches software applications for the purpose of recommending standardized applications in accordance with the district's technology goals. Responds to inquires from a variety of district personnel for the purpose of providing support, technical advice and operational assistance. Responds to requests for help, repairs, training, and/or upgrades, etc. by telephone or e-mail for the purpose of providing information, scheduling appointments and/or referring to alternate resources. Troubleshoots issues with user computer workstations and District servers (e.g. questions about application software, connectivity issues, peripheral malfunctions, etc.) for the purpose of providing maximum availability of service. Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effectivefunctioning of the work unit.
