We are looking at add a Data Engineering Manager to our technology team at Cerity Partners to continue evolving the foundations of the firm's data management practice. We are looking for a player-coach who is comfortable leading the technical design and development of Cerity Partners data infrastructure while also growing and developing the Data Engineering team.

This role requires deep expertise and comfort in open-source data transformation pipelines as well as the backend infrastructure that runs them. You should be comfortable managing database permissions and performance tuning in PostgreSQL, developing and committing changes to dbt models, orchestrating complex workflows in Airflow, and following best practices for version control with Git. People skills are also a must - you'll need to be able to proactively lead conversations about how we ingest, transform, and load data into our data lakes and warehouses.

Data powers our advisors, operations, and management team to provide exceptional service to our clients and continue to grow as one of the leading wealth management firms in the US.

Primary Responsibilities

Manage and lead the 3-person Data Engineering team, collaborating closely with stakeholders across the organization and within Technology

Design Data Models: Structure data and create database schemas that capture data as it exists and as it relates to other data.

Build Data Pipelines: Create, maintain, and optimize data pipelines and data sets.

Data Integration: Extract, transform, and push data to other systems and BI tools.

Database Management: Help build our database infrastructure and maintain it so that the organization's data remains available and our systems performant.

Optimization: Identify and replace data models and queries that lead to performance issues. Fix issues with systems and data that lead to downtime or unexpected behavior.

Collaboration: Work with other stakeholders to develop and deliver the data they need to be successful.

Data Governance: Proactively identify data that is sensitive and take steps to address its storage and usage.

Data Quality: Data comes from many different systems and in many different formats. Build internal tooling and reporting to identify bad data, and gaps in data, so that end users can work with the data without worry.

Required Qualifications:

5+ years of experience as a data engineer

5-10 years of programming experience

PostgreSQL, Python, , Git, advanced SQL

Understanding of REST APIs (GraphQL a plus)

Cloud infrastructure knowledge (particularly around managed databases)

Multiple years of experience with financial services data models

PowerBI experience useful

Ability to work independently with a geographically distributed team

Preferred Qualifications:

dbt, Airflow

Compensation Range:

$180,000
