About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced
FHIR Engineer
to support critical healthcare data integration projects. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience working with
Epic EMR/EHR systems , focusing on
FHIR-based APIs, Epic data mapping, and inbound data integration workflows . You will play a key role in transforming, mapping, and validating clinical data as it flows into Epic environments, supporting interoperability and compliance.
Key Responsibilities: Develop and maintain
FHIR-based interfaces
for exchanging healthcare data with Epic and other EHRs. Work on
Epic inbound data workflows , mapping external clinical and administrative data to Epic data models. Collaborate with integration teams to design and implement solutions aligned with
HL7 FHIR standards
and regulatory requirements (e.g., USCDI). Perform data mapping, transformation, and validation of
EHR messages and clinical documents . Troubleshoot and resolve integration issues related to data ingestion, mapping, and routing. Support testing and deployment activities in QA and production environments. Participate in agile development cycles and communicate effectively with internal teams and external partners. Required Qualifications:
4+ years of experience in healthcare integration, particularly working with
FHIR APIs
and
EHR/EMR systems . Strong hands-on experience with
Epic EHR , including
Epic data mapping (especially inbound data) . Solid understanding of
FHIR R4 , RESTful APIs, HL7 v2, and other healthcare standards. Experience with
data ingestion pipelines , data normalization, and structured clinical data formats. Familiarity with healthcare interoperability platforms and tools (e.g., Mirth, InterSystems, Redox, or HealthShare) Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and documentation skills. Preferred Qualifications:
Epic certifications (e.g., Bridges, HL7, Chronicles) are a plus. Experience working with
ModMed, Athena, or Cerner
is an advantage. Knowledge of US healthcare compliance standards (HIPAA, CMS mandates, etc.). Background in software development (Python, JavaScript, or similar) is a plus.
