Project Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO)
to support Department of Defence construction projects in Ohio. This is a
contract-based
position offering competitive pay and the opportunity to work on high-profile government sites. Position Overview:
The
SSHO
is responsible for ensuring full compliance with project-specific safety requirements, government regulations (including USACE EM 385-1-1), and company safety standards. This role is central to preventing jobsite incidents and protecting the health and well-being of all personnel on site. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, well-versed in federal construction safety compliance, and able to operate independently while keeping all stakeholders informed and aligned with safety objectives. Key Responsibilities:
Conduct daily site safety inspections and maintain comprehensive documentation Lead incident investigations and maintain OSHA logs (OSHA 300 forms) Write and implement
Accident Prevention Plans (APPs)
and
Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs) Ensure subcontractor and field personnel compliance with safety regulations Deliver on-site safety training and toolbox talks Maintain deficiency tracking systems and follow-up action plans Represent safety interests at construction progress meetings Support corporate and client safety initiatives and protocols Operate company vehicle safely and maintain vehicle records Uphold and promote a positive safety culture across all project phases Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED required Minimum 5 years of safety experience
in construction, building, heavy civil, or USACE projects OSHA 30 certification
required EM 385-1-1 training certification
required Competent Person Training
in relevant areas strongly preferred Must be proficient in English (spoken and written) for safety communication Strong understanding of JHAs, AHAs, and federal construction safety standards Procore experience is a plus Work Environment & Conditions:
Must be willing to work in all weather conditions PPE required: safety vest, hard hat, harnesses, etc. Exposure to construction materials, heavy equipment, and loud environments Some driving required (company vehicle provided) Additional Notes:
