A rare opening to lead an Austin-based design group- as Engineering Manager responsible for new product launches & sustaining improvement on our transformative cylindrical cell platform. What You'll Do
Lead and grow the group of 4+ factory-based design engineers focused on launch, ramp, and optimization of Tesla's production 4680s Foster respect & seamless collaboration with partner teams (Manufacturing, Process, Quality, NPI, Qualification, Supply Chain, Battery Pack) to tackle rate, yield, scrap & reliability issues Master-level expertise in our cell design and the factories that build it Routinely connect with Bay Area counterpart managers to elevate org practice and transition projects from development / pilot maturity to mass-production scale Leverage troves of factory data to steer immediate design, process and quality improvement efforts, plus longer-term product / equipment roadmap decisions Drive creation of new tools, protocols, workflows, and documentation to increase mass-production sustaining rigor Oversee refinement of product specs, DFMEA, and change management systems Lead cross-functional response to emergent issues (yield excursions, failures, etc.) Stimulate cost reduction / DFM / DFA projects and ensure execution Support factory intelligence development initiatives; hold constant vigilance for integrating modern AI tools to unlock new efficiency or capability paradigms
What You'll Bring
Degree or relevant experience in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Physics, or related specialization 8 years industry experience + minimum 2 years demonstrated leadership of other engineers 5 years background in design and manufacturing of high-volume precision products Sharp engineering 1st principles, a quantitative mindset, and a track record of successful mass production factory launches Expert in tolerancing, statistics, and data analysis methods (SPC / Black Belt proficiency) Competence in scripting (eg. MATLAB, Python, JMP, R, Minitab) Familiarity with pillars of manufactured product execution (CAE, GD&T, FMEA, RCCA, PLM) Exceptional technical communication (live reporting, written form, and presentation of data) Cells, batteries, semiconductors, integrated circuits, automotive, food & beverage, displays Automated mechanical assembly, metal forming / welding, web handling, power electronics
