Job Summary This role involves reviewing clinical documentation and diagnostic results to assign appropriate ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT/HCPCS codes and modifiers for billing, reporting, research, and compliance. Responsibilities include coding for various account types such as ED, OBS, SDS, ANC, ONC, L&D, and IP. The coder interacts with hospital staff and physicians, participates in performance initiatives, and ensures coding accuracy and compliance. Responsibilities

Assign diagnosis, treatment, ancillary services, and procedure codes according to classification systems for inpatient and outpatient encounters. Code patient charts with an accuracy rate of 96% or higher using ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT/HCPCS. Communicate with physicians for clarification on treatments or diagnostics to ensure accurate coding. Review provider documentation to determine diagnoses, co-morbidities, complications, severity, and risk factors. Extract and enter information into coding systems, adhering to ethical standards and official guidelines. Review pre-bill edits and correct errors to ensure accurate billing. Collaborate with HIM staff and CDI specialists to optimize documentation and coding accuracy. Utilize coding software effectively to support timely billing and meet DNFB goals. Attend educational workshops to maintain coding compliance and CEUs. Perform additional duties as assigned, including coding inpatient, outpatient, and labor/delivery conditions and procedures, and assigning POA values. Qualifications

High School diploma or GED required. Associate or Baccalaureate degree from an accredited HIM program or completion of an AHIMA/AAPC approved coding program required. Maintain one of the following certifications: RHIT, RHIA, CPC, CPC-H, CCA, CCS, NRCCS, CCS-P, ROCC, or CHONC. At least 3 years of progressive coding experience in hospital or outpatient settings preferred. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Knowledge of medical terminology. Excellent organizational, communication, and computer skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Working knowledge of coding guidelines and AHA Coding Clinic.
