The Certified Medical Assistant - Family Health Center (FHC) functions as a vital member of the healthcare team who contributes to the success by demonstrating patient focus, effective communication, professionalism, self-development, and teamwork. This individual demonstrates excellent clinical, problem-solving, interpersonal, and leadership skills, and makes decisions consistent with the organization's policies, department protocols and guidelines to achieve high-quality, inclusive, equitable, culturally, and linguistically appropriate care in a cost-effective, patient centered manner.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Performs clinical tasks in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and protocols, and as directed by provider. This includes but is not limited to:
Prepares instruments, equipment and materials needed for patient care; keeps exam rooms aseptic, neat and supplied. Adhering to privacy and patient confidentiality standards at all times. Assisting providers with exams, tests, procedures, patient communications etc. Performs injections under supervision and as ordered by providers, within scope of practice. Prepares and collects specimens as ordered by providers. Performs venipunctures and point of care testing. Obtains and documents complete patient data in an accurate, concise, and timely manner. Instructs patients as directed by the provider in preparation for specific procedures and tests when appropriate. Assists with preparation of prescriptions ordered and provides patient instructions as directed by provider for use to allow for proper use of the prescription. Communicates with patients regarding their concerns, collects information, and relays this information professionally and efficiently to the provider. Performing registration and appointing duties, as needed. Processes provider's orders, prepares appropriate forms, and schedules appointments and services. Ensures that charges are submitting in a timely manner. Proficiently uses computer applications as required for patient care to ensure accuracy. Reviews and meets ongoing competency requirements of the role to maintain the skills, knowledge, and abilities to perform, within scope, role specific functions. Collaborates with providers and other health team members to ensure continuity of care. Acts as a clinical leader and resource promotes a positive work environment and supports and/or leads change initiatives within the department and organization. Participates in quality improvement activities to promote quality healthcare. Responds appropriately to emergency situations and remains current in emergency procedures, given role. Maintains currency of required certifications/registries, and demonstrates maintained competence in job-related skills, work-related technologies and equipment, and use of the electronic health record. Participates in educational, instructional, and professional development activities. Actively participates in required department meetings, committees, in-services, etc. Regular attendance is required to carry out the essential functions of the position. ADDITIONAL DUTIES
Trains and mentor new employees and students. May be asked to provide cross coverage at other medical sites. May participate in interviews. Other duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation.
Minimum Required:
Graduate of a Medical Assistant program with the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
or
Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification, and successful completed documentation of the following courses (or their equivalent): Medical Terminology Anatomy & Physiology or Body Structure & Function or Human Body in Health & Disease Pharmacology EXPERIENCE
Minimum Required:
Two years of experience as a Medical Assistant AND completion of the three core classes within Twelve months of hire.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES
The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position. Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position.
Minimum Required:
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification awarded by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification awarded by the American Medical Technologists (AMT), and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) within three months of hire.
