Job Summary/Basic Function

About This Role:

The Director for Compliance reports directly to the Vice President, Director of Athletics and serves as the chief compliance officer for the athletics department. The successful candidate will lead the department’s compliance efforts on campus and work with a third-party vendor in areas including education, monitoring, and enforcement, and will serve as a key advisor to the athletic director, senior staff, and coaching staff on compliance matters. This position will ensure compliance operations are conducted in accordance with NCAA , Conference, Lamar University and Texas State University System ( TSUS ) rules and regulations.

What You’ll Do – Position Responsibilities:

Compliance Leadership and Oversight

Oversee the day-to-day operations of the compliance office, including ensuring adherence to NCAA rules and regulations.

Lead the development, implementation, and enforcement of policies and procedures designed to maintain institutional control.

Serve as the liaison between the department and the NCAA or conference on compliance-related matters.

Education, Interpretation, and Interdepartmental Collaboration

Act as the primary resource for educating athletics staff, coaches, student-

athletes, and other stakeholders on NCAA and conference rules.

Along with a third-party vendor, provide timely interpretations of complex rules

and regulations to support informed decision-making across the department.

Collaborate with the registrar, financial aid office, and academic support staff as

needed for student-athlete eligibility and related matters.

Monitoring, Reporting, and Technology Management

Manage compliance technology platforms (e.g., ARMS or similar systems) to

streamline monitoring and reporting activities.

Ensure accurate and timely submission of mandatory NCAA and conference

reports/documents.

Coordinate the documentation, investigation, and resolution of potential

compliance violations in conjunction with a third-party vendor.

Prepare and submit self-reports and waiver requests to the NCAA and

conference office, as needed.

Must possess a keen attention to detail, be highly data driven, and have excellent written and oral communication skills.

Proven track record with building and maintaining positive professional relationships with various stakeholders.

Proven experience and success in finding innovative and creative solutions to complex challenges and opportunities.

Strict adherence to established NCAA , Conference, Lamar University and Texas State University System rules and regulations.

Physical Requirements: This position required sitting and standing for extended periods of time and lifting up to 25 pounds while performing du ties as described within the essential functions.

Job Conditions: Duties are typically performed within athletics facilities and other buildings or outdoors. May require occasional travel and evening/weekend hours based on athletic event schedules.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in a field related to the essential job functions.

Minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible experience in NCAA compliance, athletics administration, or a related field.

Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA Division I rules, policies, and governance.
