Job Summary
Chicago State University (CSU), is the oldest public university in the Chicago metropolitan area. Chicago State University is Illinois' only four-year U.S. Department of Education-designated Predominantly Black Institution (PBI). CSU serves over 1,500 undergraduate students and nearly 900 graduate students. This senior academic leader will provide strategic oversight for all graduate programs and global initiatives, fostering academic excellence, student success, and global citizenship. The Dean will advance CSU's mission of access, equity, and excellence by expanding graduate education and global partnerships that support student achievement, faculty development, and institutional distinction.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Administration
Provide strategic leadership, direction, and advocacy for all graduate programs and the Office of Global Engagement. Collaborate with academic deans, department chairs, and faculty to ensure the quality, relevance, and competitiveness of CSU's graduate offerings. Lead the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and standards for graduate education. Create strategies that improve retention and completion rates by 3 to 5% each academic year. Supervise staff within the Graduate School and Office of Global Engagement, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement. Graduate Programs
Work in partnership with academic units to create innovative, interdisciplinary graduate degree programs that are consistent with the needs of business, industry, and appeal to graduate students. Collaborate with academic leaders to increase the number of research doctoral degrees from one to four in the next five years. Support program development, assessment, and accreditation in collaboration with academic units. Promote interdisciplinary research, graduate student funding, and professional development opportunities. Monitor academic progress and support services for graduate students. Develop pathways and partnerships that connect CSU's graduate programs with community, industry, and governmental stakeholders. Global Engagement
Advance the university's global vision through international partnerships, study abroad programs, and international student recruitment and support. Enhance CSU's global footprint by identifying new international collaborations, grants, and faculty exchange opportunities. Serve as the university's liaison to international organizations, governmental agencies, and partner institutions. Ensure compliance with federal regulations related to international education and visa sponsorship. Institutional Collaboration & Strategic Initiatives
Collaborate with the Office of Sponsored Programs to increase graduate and global engagement-related research and funding opportunities. Serve on university-wide committees and contribute to the academic strategic planning process. Advocate for resources and infrastructure to support graduate and global programming. Lead efforts to integrate culturally responsive practices and global perspectives into graduate education. Minimum Qualifications
Earned doctorate from an accredited institution. A record of successful administrative leadership in higher education, particularly in graduate education and/or international programs. Demonstrated experience in program development, accreditation, enrollment growth, and student success initiatives. Commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and community engagement. Knowledge of current trends in graduate education and international higher education. Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in an urban, public university setting serving historically underrepresented students. Demonstrated success in securing external funding for graduate or international initiatives. Experience developing global partnerships and leading study abroad or exchange programs. Familiarity with graduate admissions, financial aid, and student support services. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Tenured with rank of Associate or Full Professor. Receptive to teaching one or classes class(es) per academic year. Demonstrated understanding of program assessment, accreditation and strategic planning. Proven track record of collegial, collaborative leadership.
