Job Summary:
We are seeking a strategic and hands-on
Materials Manager
to optimize the flow of materials within our Pasadena, TX Chemical Manufacturing plant. This role is critical in ensuring the right materials are available at the right time for production, overseeing inventory control, and streamlining material handling and storage processes to maximize efficiency and support seamless manufacturing operations through leading a team. The position requires a hands-on leadership style, strong floor presence, and financial business acumen.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations, Business Management, or related field.
Minimum of 5+ years of experience in materials management, inventory control, production planning, or logistics planning in a manufacturing plant
Minimum of 2+ years of supervisory experience
Proven experience with using Microsoft Excel as well as an ERP/WMS systems for managing inventory, production orders, and data
Experience with MRP and using MRP principles to ensure material availability for production
Ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities
Strong analytical, organizational, problem solving, and decision-making skills are essential
Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with internal and external customers
Demonstrated leadership, communication, tactical and strategic thinking skills
Qualifications:
Experience in lean manufacturing or continuous improvement using CI, TPM, Lead, or 5S
Ability to work independently to manage multiple projects and initiatives to meet established timelines
Self-starter, highly motivated to identify problems and take initiative to make corrective actions
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Direct inventory control, warehousing, transportation, logistics planning, order processing and customer service experience in a manufacturing facility
Ensure operation compliance with standards, policies and procedures. Foster strategies, goals and plans to better serve customers
Develop direct reports, promote 100% employee engagement, and reward productivity
Lead department safety program, drive continuous improvement and ensure key reports have a successor
Drive communications with contacts across business; foster close relationships with key vendors/suppliers
Avoid and resolve service issues relating to logistics
Collaborate on network design/ KPI initiatives and report on site performance
Identify and manage redesign, capital projects and vendor changes to improve safety, cost, service, quality, performance and/or compliance.
Meet or exceed measured standards, i.e. improve cost and service performance through Logistics activities that include aspects of inventory control/weeks of coverage/forecasting/deployment, service levels, warehousing, warehouse space, transportation, logistics planning, order processing, and delivery execution and exception management
Lead inventory control/ownership at the site including real time work order processing, variance reporting and cycle count processes
