System Administrator
to support the United States Coast Guard (USCG) at the Aviation Logistics Center (ALC)-Information Systems Division (ISD). The System Administrator is responsible for maintaining enterprise systems' availability, security, and performance to support mission-critical aviation logistics. The role supports hybrid infrastructure, including Windows, RHEL, VMware, and Kubernetes environments-while executing vulnerability remediation, system upgrades, and daily administration tasks in a cybersecurity-compliant DevSecOps-aligned environment. Primary Responsibilities: Administer, configure, and maintain Windows Server, RHEL, and virtualized systems (VMware, Hyper-V, Kubernetes) across development, test, and production environments. Perform vulnerability remediation based on Tenable or equivalent scan results, implementing STIG compliance and aligning with NIST 800-53 and DHS 4300A standards. Support system integration and operational sustainment for legacy and modern platforms, including SAS, OpenROAD, and Apache/IIS web servers. Automate repetitive tasks and enforce standard configurations using PowerShell, Bash, or Python scripting. Assist with deployment, maintenance, and optimization of virtualized and containerized environments, ensuring high availability and resource efficiency. Monitor system performance, conduct capacity planning, and support system upgrades, patching, and configuration changes through change control processes. Participate in Agile ceremonies and collaborate with developers, cybersecurity staff, and other system administrators using Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket. Provide Tier II/III technical support and assist with incident resolution, audit preparation, and ATO sustainment activities. Maintain clear and up-to-date documentation on system configurations, SOPs, troubleshooting guides, and system architecture. Support secure application deployment and infrastructure readiness for GOTS/COTS applications. All other duties as assigned by management. Skills/Qualifications: Proficiency in administering RHEL and Windows Server platforms in hybrid (on-prem/cloud) enterprise environments. Hands-on experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V) and container orchestration using Kubernetes. Working knowledge of STIGs, vulnerability management, and cybersecurity baseline implementation. Strong scripting skills using PowerShell, Bash, or Python. Familiarity with web server administration (Apache and IIS) and system monitoring tools. Collaborative mindset with experience working in Agile DevSecOps environments. Education/Experience Requirements: Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Computer Science, Math, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field. Two (2) years of directly relevant experience may substitute for one (1) year of formal education. Minimum of two (2) years of experience administering Linux, Windows, VMware, and SAS environments. Minimum of two (2) years of performing security remediation to systems with vulnerabilities based on security scans. Minimum of one (1) year of experience in an Agile DevSecOps software and engineering environment and Methodologies. Minimum of one (1) year of experience with Kubernetes, Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket. Minimum of one (1) year of experience managing, configuring, deploying, and troubleshooting web applications in IIS and Apache web servers. Minimum of one (1) year of experience installing, configuring, and maintaining RHEL servers. Minimum of one (1) year of designing, building, and implementing application servers to support the business environment. Minimum of one (1) year of experience in server installation and upgrade with GOTS and COTS software. Experience supporting federal government systems, particularly within DHS or DoD environments, is strongly preferred.
