Primary Purpose:

Support district school health program and provide direct services to meet the needs of students and staff under the clinical supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN) on the high school campus.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification: High school diploma or GED Valid Texas Vocational Nurse license issued by the Board of Vocational Nurse Examiners with copy of current license on file in the Human Resources Department. Current Certification for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (CPR and AED) Valid certification to conduct vision/hearing/spinal screening. Mastery of state-mandated skills to serve as Unlicensed Diabetes Care Assistant (UDCA) Special Knowledge/Skills:

Practical working knowledge of basic first aid and nursing procedures and techniques ?Strong organizational, communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills Strong computer skills and ability to quickly adapt to new software applications. Ability to work independently to implement district policies and procedures Ability to work compatible with students, parents and staff Ability to accept supervision and direction from campus principal and/or Registered Nurse Willingness to attend workshops and training to acquire new skills Experience:

One to two years nursing experience preferred Nursing experience with school-aged children preferred

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Supervise student sign-in/sign-out process and enter daily clinic visits into Health Office system. Triage and provide direct care for students with routine medical needs utilizing school health protocols and care plans provided by the school nurse (RN). Document daily routine student care on the Health Office system Communicate with parents regarding transportation for ill or injured students Administer prescribed medication to students according to District policies and procedures, and document on Health Office system In the absence of the RN, provide emergency care for the ill and injured, using first aid procedures and obtaining necessary assistance in case of serious trauma and/or illness. Advise the RN of any communicable diseases (exclusion and re-admission) so the RN can notify the health department on all reportable diseases. Provide documentation and maintain current skills for CPR/AED and Vision/Hearing/Spinal screening. Assist the RN with annual vision, hearing and spinal screening of students Participate in appropriate training, master mandated skills and serve as an Unlicensed Diabetes Care Assistant (UDCA). Communicate with the RN regarding any concerns related to child abuse and/or drug abuse. Use the Safe Work Practices established in the District's Bloodborne Pathogen Control Plan when cleaning all body spills and providing wound care Demonstrate integrity and ethics, and maintain absolute confidentiality Maintain a positive, professional image in appearance, communication and interaction Meet task completion deadlines established by supervisors, Comply with federal, state and District policies, as well as campus routines and regulations. Stay up-to-date professionally through the selection of qualify staff development opportunities for personal growth. Perform other duties and accept other responsibilities assigned by the principal or RN.
