Responsibilities: Code inpatient medical records using ICD-10-CM, ensuring proper grouping for MS-DRG assignment following coding guidelines. Assemble and analyze medical records accurately and timely for deficiencies. Maintain master index and logs; assist with record studies and projects. Participate in Clinical Documentation Improvement, including provider queries. Analyze charts for Quality Assurance. Support other HIM Department responsibilities. Handle communication tasks including answering calls, messaging, and greeting visitors; multitask effectively. Complete required competencies, attend meetings, and maintain consistent attendance. Float to other units or facilities as needed. Ensure confidentiality and privacy of health information per regulations. Demonstrate professionalism, resourcefulness, and calmness in emergencies. Maintain good rapport with staff and visitors; seek guidance as needed. Adhere to all applicable laws, policies, and ethical standards regarding health information. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's degree in Health Information Management or related preferred. Current or eligible AHIMA or AAPC credential required. At least 1 year of coding experience in an acute care hospital required. Annual coding training required. Experience with ICD-10, DRG optimization, and clinical information abstraction necessary.
