Job Summary Provides direct patient care through use of the nursing process. Working with the Nurse Director, facilitates the daily operations of the unit. Does this position require patient care? Yes. Essential functions include accurately assessing patients' needs, utilizing multiple data sources to determine actual/potential health problems and functional status, providing verbal communication to other health care providers, documenting on-going assessment of patients' biopsychosocial status on Assessment Flowsheet, accurately planning nursing interventions for assigned patients, modifying and individualizing standard of care and protocols, participating in the development of the multidisciplinary treatment plan, initiating discharge plans at time of admission, demonstrating ability to prioritize patient care needs, providing and implementing nursing care interventions, establishing a therapeutic alliance with assigned patients, demonstrating accurate and timely medication administration, demonstrating accurate and timely transcription of physician orders, promoting interventions that provide the least-restrictive alternatives, participating in leading patient groups, accurately evaluating the effectiveness of nursing care interventions, documenting on the standard of care, protocols, and Assessment Flowsheet reflects response to intervention, demonstrating an understanding of patients' response to treatment interventions, accurately communicating patients' clinical status at patient rounds and change of shift reports, participating in unit/program quality improvement activities, assuming a leadership role in managing the daily operations of the unit, providing direction and supervision of RNs and MHSs, assuming a leadership role in medical and psychiatric emergencies, anticipating acute milieu problems and delegating staff appropriately, participating in the training and education of RNs, MHSs, and other healthcare providers, problem-solving with the Nurse Director around staffing issues, providing for teaching needs of patient and significant others, documenting teaching in the patient's record, informing treatment team of patient and significant others' learning needs, maintaining a commitment to professional growth and competency, utilizing the best available evidence to guide practice decisions, completing mandatory in service requirements, participating in ongoing educational activities, seeking constructive feedback regarding work performance from peers and professional colleagues, identifying strengths and areas for professional/practice development with supervisor, supporting, participating in research projects, participating in the education and professional development of staff, collaborating with the Nursing Director in identifying and providing teaching for staff members, participating in the development of clinical policies, nursing department procedures, and standards of care, demonstrating effective interpersonal communication, maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality, communicating positively, supportively, and with courtesy to the patients and staff, presenting self in a positive and professional manner, contributing to the productivity and cost-effectiveness of the hospital, department, and unit, demonstrating effective time management, demonstrating economical management of services and supplies. Qualifications Education: Bachelor's degree required or Bachelor's degree nursing preferred. Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No. Licenses and credentials: Registered Nurse [RN - State License] - Generic - HR Only required. Experience: Five years experience working in the mental health field preferred.
