Why This Role Matters

The Washington Post is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to support the site's rendering web engine, design system and content delivery. This role builds and supports applications that enable purchasing Washington Post content around the world. This role requires a close relationship with the newsroom's editorial staff and its publishing systems. You love to collaborate to learn and implement solutions to the toughest problems Responsibilities Implement and maintain applications across our stack. In-depth experience of Python, React, NextJS, NodeJS, and TypeScript. Write high-quality code with best practices and design patterns in mind and engage in code review/quality assurance. Engage with your fellow engineers and bring new ideas to create/maintain a dynamic and scalable architecture. Understand our cloud infrastructure, AWS, experiment and implement how it supports our implementations. This role requires limited on-call hours. An on-call schedule is on a rotating basis and will be determined a couple of months after you join, taking into account team size and other variables. Qualifications

It's okay not to meet 100% of these requirements! We're primarily looking for people who meet some of these requirements and are motivated to learn new technologies and expand their skill set. Bachelor's degree in computer science, equivalent field, or equivalent experience. A minimum of 5 years of experience working as a software engineer. A minimum of 5 years of experience in Python. JavaScript & TypeScript with libraries: React and frameworks: NextJS. Strong experience in command line (Unix & Linux) navigation and revision tracking (Git) Experience with DevOps technologies such as Docker and Jenkins. Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) such as S3, EC2, ELB, SES, and CloudWatch Collaboration Makes Us Stronger

The salary range for this position is: $119,700 - $199,300 Annual The actual salary within this range will depend on individual skills, experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements. This position may be eligible for a bonus or incentive program, and a member of the Talent Acquisition team will discuss bonus payment terms and conditions during the interview process.
