DIOCESE OF ALLENTOWN St. Peter the Apostle, Reading Position Description

Job Title:

Religious Education Secretary FLSA:

Non-Exempt Job Status:

Part time; 20 hours/week (M-F: 9AM-1PM) Reporting Functions:

Reports to Director of Religious Education (DRE); no reports.

Job Function:

Provides administrative support to the parish religious education operations.

Duties and Responsibilities: Supports the Director of Religious by performing typing, word processing, proofreading, and editing of materials. Duplicates and distributes materials, as needed.

Assists with receptionist services for the parish office. Duties include greeting visitors at the door, handling routine questions, and answering and placing phone calls in a professional manner.

Responsible for the proper record maintenance of baptisms, first communion, and confirmations. Assist Director with Safe Environment documentation, scheduling and training.

Assist with the Mass intention book through proper handling of stipends and entry of information.

At times, it is required to help the Director with evening activities.

Any other duties assigned by the Director of Religious Education.

Educational Requirements: Minimum of an associate degree or related business experience.

Other Requirements: Proficiency in speaking and writing in English and Spanish.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, database management, and spreadsheet development as well as other business applications and office equipment.

Must possess good organizational and communication skills.

Must exhibit a high degree of integrity, loyalty, responsibility, dependability, and have a strong work ethic. Confidentiality is a must.

Must possess a high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations. Must demonstrate a welcoming attitude. Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact, and diplomacy.

Physical Demands:

The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk, and hear both in person and by telephone; frequent use of equipment that includes repetitive motions and computer eye fatigue. Occasionally required to reach and lift with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.

Working Conditions:

Normal office environment. Parish working hours around Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This position is part-time; Monday- Friday; 20 hours a week; 4 days a week.
