What You Will Do:

The ER Unit Coordinator is an unlicensed worker who, at the discretion of the Director, may be cross-trained as a Patient Care Technician. (Please refer to the Patient Care Tech job description when performing those duties.)

Provides clinical and clerical support to the patient and our units under the direct supervision of the Charge Nurse.

They assist in the maintenance of a responsive communication system through positive interactions with our patients, guests, ancillary departments, Physicians and their peers.

Responsible for the accurate transcription of Physician Orders and assisting the units in the planning, organization and implementation of measures to maintain a quality therapeutic environment for our units and ultimately, our patients.

Muse – ordering EKG, attaching EKG to order

Assigns proper physician

Sends EKG to Meditech to view in patient chart

Placing protocol orders

For all stroke, STEMI, Code Blue, and Trauma Alert

Logging and documenting times and physicians contacted

Transfers – Responsible for coordination and documentation of all ER transfer

Completes proper paperwork

Sets up transportation based on level of care needed

Obtains copy of patient medical record/radiology disk

STEMI

Fax EKG to on-call interventionalist

Calls cath lab team

Notifies supervisor

Admissions

Calls supervisor with proper information to obtain appropriate floor/bed for the patient

Evaluates need for bariatric bed

Note if patient is on any drips

Note if isolation is necessary

Coordinates all doctor-to-doctor calls

Updates physician call schedule in ER daily

Contacts on-call physician with their preferred method of communication

Phone Calls – Acts as the voice of the ER

Prioritizes/triages phone calls

Intercepts and addresses phone calls

Communication

Anticipates and communicates the status/needs of the ER to the Nursing Supervisor

Performs accurate communication with Charge Nurse

Acts as the central communication for all ER staff and patients

The ER Unit Coordinator is able to anticipate and prioritize the actions needed to quickly and accurately expedite the patient experience in the ER.

Utilizes nursing practice standards and evidence-based practices. Collects patient information/data and assists the RN in planning, implementation and evaluation of the patient’s care as delegated.

What You Will Need:

Must be a high school graduate or equivalent. Prefer Medical Assistant, or STNA with experience. Previous hospital and clerical experience with excellent computer skills is preferred with at least 1 year experience in pertinent clinical area.

CPR/BLS Health Care Provider is required within 30 days of employment if not previously obtained.

Medical Terminology course is preferred.
