Position Summary : Responsible for assisting the Riley County Network/System Engineer with research, installation, configuration, implementation, and management of network and server infrastructure. Coordinates and works with the Network/System Engineer on all tasks, duties, and other aspects of the department. Position is the primary escalation point for help desk support and is the as-needed support for network, server, and security incidents. Escalates issues to the Network/System Engineer when deemed necessary. Due to the nature of this position, requires on-call availability except for scheduled leave.
Will assume the basic functions of the Network/System Engineer position in their absence. Assists with daily Help Desk duties performed including providing first level customer support as needed as directed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Assists the Network/System Engineer in day-to-day research, installation, configuration, implementation, and management of the network and server infrastructure. This includes, but not limited to, monitoring system alerts, advising changes/improvements, managing anti-software and hardware, implementing security practices, implement policies and procedures, installation of hardware and software improvements, management of physical network and server infrastructure, management of OS and applications, backup systems and cabling. Provide the second escalation tier for help desk support. Provide all tier levels of support when required/requested. Assist all tiers of support with implementations and installations when requested. Lead, participate, and train in team assignments. Coordinate statues, research, incidents and goals related to the department and technologies. Continuous improvement of knowledge, and understanding, of IT related technologies to further advance the department. With guidance from the Network/System Engineer, research, test, and implement new technologies from knowledge gained. Educate other team members, with greater emphasis training the Network/System Engineer, of new technologies and potential implementations. Availability for on-call support, excluding scheduled leave, as urgent situations arise. Must work evenings, weekends and holidays when required Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
MINIMUM POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Education : Associate degree in computer science, network administration, information technology or equivalent with at least 1 year of experience required.
License(s)/Certification(s) : CCNA certification preferred. A+, Network+, Server+, MCSA, and MCSD certifications preferred.
Knowledge and Experience:
3 years' experience as a desktop technician required. Detailed knowledge of PC hardware and software is essential, including all Microsoft Windows Operating Systems and Office productivity suites, as well as knowledge of common business software packages and applications. Experience in Windows Server operating systems and server virtualization, VMWare, Microsoft SQL, and Cisco hardware, IOS and Cisco Phone Systems preferred. Strong aptitude in OS repairs, spyware and virus removal, hardware, upgrades, Networking concepts, and troubleshooting.
Valid driver's license and ability to pass fingerprint background check required.
Appropriate combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the above requirements.

Ability to learn new technologies quickly, communicate problems with supervisors as they become known, work with others in a team environment, adapt to challenges encountered, troubleshoot and solve problems, hardware and software support skills, strong network and Ethernet wiring skills, exercise responsibility when expected, meet deadlines, and maintain confidentiality are required. Must be able to work additional hours during the week and/or weekend, if required.
