POSITION SUMMARY
This position is accountable for providing both senior level structural design engineering support for the construction of marine structures for Orion, its affiliates and other clients, and is accountable for creating and maintaining client relationships and identifying new marine projects for the Orion organization. Typical projects may include port facilities, wharves, liquid cargo terminals, bridges and causeways, container terminals, cruise terminals, bulkheads, docks, piers or marinas. The incumbent will supervise Engineers and Project Management team members on a regular basis. This position will also assist in coordinating and facilitating the proposal process with potential clients by writing proposals, developing budget and pricing information, submitting pre-qualification documentation, negotiating contracts, and presenting proposals to clients. The incumbent will typically work with the VP of Engineering, Engineering Director of Operations, Business Development Managers, Project Managers, and potential customers and clients in achieving the objectives of this position.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Works with the VP of Engineering and Engineering and Structural Design team to achieve departmental business goals and objectives. Leads the growth and development of our team by providing mentorship, technical guidance, and participation in the hiring and evaluation of senior & junior staff. Interfaces with engineering and project team members and/or customer/client to obtain a comprehensive understanding of the engineering services being requested. Applies extensive and diversified knowledge of principles and practices in broad areas of assigned engineering projects. Performs structural engineering analysis and design of new and existing marine structures (bulkheads, sheet-pile walls, retaining walls, concrete wharves, and mooring/breasting dolphins). Demonstrates ability to develop business and marketing strategies that will help the Company achieve its short and long-range business objectives. Demonstrates ability to establish and maintain on-going client relationships with customers and clients to investigate new business and project opportunities as they arise as well as prospect new clients. Demonstrates ability to serve as a primary liaison with new clients in bid proposals, pre-qualification submittals, and contract negotiations. Performs finite element structural modeling of marine structures (SAP or STAAD). Reviews complete project documents for conformity and quality assurance. Develops new techniques and/or improved processes for design projects. Provides technical advice on safe designs and construction. Reviews and approves scopes, budgets, and schedules for assignments. Prepares bid package documents (drawings, specifications, probable construction cost estimates). Represents the Company at industry-wide conferences and symposiums. Evaluates upcoming project opportunities to assess the feasibility of the business prospect for the Company. EMPLOYEE SAFETY AND COMPLIANCE

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Master's and/or Bachelor's degree (required) in Structural Engineering or in Civil Engineering with Structural emphasis. Professional Engineer license in an US State or ability to obtain PE through reciprocity within 6 months of hire. A minimum of ten (10) years of work experience in marine structural engineering design is required. Prior work experience in the marine construction, heavy industrial or engineering design industries is preferred but not required. The incumbent must have a working knowledge of Marine Structural design, Engineering Standards, Marine Construction Materials, Procurement, Estimating, Scheduling, Project Tracking Software, Cost Control, and Safety and Environmental Compliance. The incumbent must also have a high level of business acumen and be technically proficient and knowledgeable about the marine construction industry.
The incumbent must have the ability to quickly learn the technical aspects of the business; be an effective communicator; have the ability to interface well with employees at all levels of the organization; and possess a high degree of personal integrity.
Discretion and trustworthiness, and the ability to keep all Company information and materials strictly confidential (both internally and externally) are essential elements of this position.
Must be well organized, diligent, and be a self-starter with the ability to work with minimal supervision and to independently identify work to be done. Must be flexible and have the ability to adjust to sudden changes in work priorities. The incumbent must also have the ability to prioritize work generally and in order to accommodate those changes. Attention to detail and extreme care in performing tasks accurately and carefully are also essential.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
The incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.
The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment if required to work or visit the jobsite. This may include hard hat, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes, personal flotation devices, or other equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done.
The incumbent must possess the ability to remain calm during emergencies and respond appropriately as dictated by the circumstance of the incident and as directed by the Safety Representative or other management personnel. Must be capable of evacuating the work area in a timely manner should an emergency arise.
