We are looking for an experienced Director of Station Engineering for the Axiom Space Station Program Facility (SSDF). The Director of Station Engineering is responsible for defining standards, processes, and best practices to ensure consistency and efficiency within the engineering department. They oversee team performance, conduct technical reviews, and manage resource allocation across projects while maintaining budget and compensation oversight. Additionally, they foster a positive team culture through mentorship, conflict resolution, and performance management, including setting annual objectives and key results (OKRs).

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Define department standards, processes, and best practices for station program engineering staff to establish commonality and harmonization of practice within the department

Responsibility and ownership of team output and performance, including technical review of engineering deliverables

Review and provide feedback to major design review data packages

Leverages extensive experience and judgment to plan and achieve objectives

Develop strategies and solutions to execute complex program initiatives

Resource management and prioritization across active projects

Labor budget & compensation management, including participation in workload projections

Conflict resolution and removal of impediments

Participate in interviews, as applicable, and provide input for interviewing, hiring, and terminating employees

Performance management and the establishment of annual objectives & key results (OKRs) for a team of mechanical engineers

Act as a resource to provide guidance, support, and mentorship to engineers within the department

Enhance staff morale by collaborating with the People & Culture department to ensure internal equity, training, and development

Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience

Bachelor's degree in engineering field required

Minimum of 15 years of experience in engineering

Minimum of 10 years management experience

Spaceflight hardware design background preferred

Experience with Atlassian suite preferred

Experience in managing government contracts with multiple contract types and established customer relationships

Experience managing large technical teams in a dynamic operational environment

Demonstrated ability to collaborate and engage with vital stakeholders

Demonstrated ability to manage risk and/or opportunity

Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to address project challenges

Demonstrated time management and organization skills to meet tight deadlines and quality objectives

Highly proficient in MS Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task

Requirements

Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation

Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which the position is advertised

Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time)

May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time)
