Base pay range $180,000.00/yr - $190,000.00/yr Additional compensation types Annual Bonus POSITION SUMMARY The Director, Maintenance and Repair is responsible for overseeing all aspects of FMS maintenance of container terminal equipment including crane, power shop, and other equipment. This position reports to Chief Technology Officer. The Director, Maintenance and Repair shall maintain a positive and safe work environment by assuring the availability of terminal assets by using best business practices to manage resources, services and processes to meet the needs of the company. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Directly responsible for the FMS Maintenance & Repair (M&R) managers, contractors, and union labor in all areas of maintenance operations, with the maintenance and repair focus of terminal quay cranes, RTG’s, and power shop and critical electrical infrastructure Ensures the safe and clean working environment through the adherence to state and federal regulatory agencies such as OSHA and through the performance of frequent inspections of all equipment. Ensures that all critical preventative and corrective maintenance is planned and completed in a timely and efficient manner. Maintains an effective and efficient procedure of real-time troubleshooting and repair of critical equipment; implements an effective communication process of equipment status with the operations team and work together to develop operational contingencies as necessary. Develop management systems and performance measurement dashboards to transparently track and report on performance. Continuous improvement by overseen staff development by creating a focused training program and on the job training. Experience in major terminal equipment purchase projects from requirement specification, engineering reviews, manufacturing quality control and final acceptance testing Provide strong leadership, develop and set individual and departmental performance goals and act as a change agent. Investigates and implements long-term cost savings solutions for areas of excessive repair requirements to maximize profitability of the terminal. Maintains a working and professional relationship with ILWU labor (including OCU), and be knowledgeable in labor contracts and grievance procedures. Perform other related duties as assigned by the CTO. Supervise 2 – 100 employees (labor) directly and indirectly. This job description is not all-inclusive. Employee may perform other related duties as needed to meet the ongoing needs of the organization. KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge of terminal, stevedore and vessel operations and equipment, physical and operations security. Working knowledge and ability to use computer for data input and word processing. Working knowledge of terminal equipment electrical, mechanical and structural systems. Maintains a working and professional relationship with ILWU labor (including OCU), and be knowledgeable in of ILWU Collective Bargaining Agreements and Safety contract. Experience in the implementation of marine terminal technology in a union environment including in depth knowledge of union grievance machinery procedures Excellent skills in interpersonal, negotiation, time management, prioritization, and project management. Prior experience using CMMS or other computer-based maintenance and asset management systems and knowledge or prior experience with Lean Six Sigma methodology is strongly preferred. Prior practical experience with standard crane specification and configuration from OEMs, knowledge of ZPMC products and project execution is strongly preferred. TWIC Card:You will be required to apply for a TWIC (Transportation Worker’s Identification Credential) through the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) prior to your start date.Failure to receive DHS approval, acquire, or renew a TWIC card may result in the termination of employment. REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or 20+ years’ experience in an terminal equipment maintenance management position. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards.
