Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a Student Support Specialist at Hood Canal School District. This full-time position is designed for someone who is passionate about helping students succeed behaviorally, socially, and emotionally. The Student Support Specialist will work closely with students, families, and school staff to create a supportive environment that fosters student growth and well-being.

Responsibilities

Provide one-on-one and group support for students with social, emotional, or behavioral challenges. Address and de-escalate challenging behaviors in a calm, respectful, and restorative manner. Collaborate regularly with teachers to support classroom management and individualized student needs. Implement and monitor positive reward systems to encourage behavior change and student engagement. Follow and reinforce school-wide PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) expectations and practices. Maintain accurate and up-to-date discipline and behavior data using school systems/tools. Meet consistently with the principal and student support team to review behavior data, track student progress, and follow through on intervention plans. Apply trauma-informed strategies with a deep understanding of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and their impact on behavior and learning. Assist with the development and implementation of behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and other individualized supports. Support a safe, inclusive, and respectful school environment for all students. Works with the Attendance team as a mentor and partner Participates as a check-in/check-out (CICO) mentor and team member. Works with local agencies to best support student's learning and positive growth. Build positive relationships with students, staff, and families and contribute to a positive school climate. Supervise students in cafeteria, playground, and hallway settings as necessary Maintain effective communication with the principal, including providing a daily summary of issues Operate according to professional and ethical standards at all times. This includes maintaining a high degree of confidentiality, courtesy, cooperation, positive attitude, reliability, punctuality, accuracy, and efficiency. Arrive to work on time and maintains regular and consistent attendance, consistently adhering to work schedule. Supervise student activities before and/or after school when necessary. Keep up to date and attend relevant training. Perform other duties as assigned by administrator(s). Requirements

Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work effectively with staff, students and families Knowledge of and experience developing and implementing successful behavior plans and interventions for students Knowledge of and experience with student attendance and discipline laws and procedures Knowledge and experience with student data collection and analysis Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Even tempered with the ability to accurately assess situations and remain calm during emergencies or stressful situations Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time Ability to flex schedule to supervise students during before and/or after-school events and activities Ability to work effectively and demonstrate sensitivity to the cultural, ethnic, gender, and religious diversity of students, staff, parents, and community. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing. Must be a trustworthy individual with a high level of integrity and work ethic throughout all duties. Ability to maintain confidentiality in all matters. Must be punctual and dependable. Regular and consistent attendance is required. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
