Epic Beacon Module Specialist

Provides a high level of technical support (development, testing, integration and implementation) of applications and interfaces which deliver IT tools and support business functions across the health system. Performs project management, requirements definitions, systems design, analysis, code development, problem resolution and vendor coordination. This role is responsible for configuring, supporting, and optimizing the Epic Beacon module, which is used for managing oncology patient care. This role involves translating business needs into system solutions, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring the system effectively supports clinical workflows. Oncology Scheduling Workflow Support & Optimization

Support, maintain, and enhance oncology scheduling workflows within the Epic electronic health record (EHR) system. Optimize infusion scheduling and oncology clinic scheduling workflows to improve operational efficiency and patient experience. Collaborate with oncology clinic and infusion center staff to ensure scheduling workflows align with clinical protocols and operational needs. Participate in or lead projects related to oncology scheduling improvements, including upgrades, new feature rollouts, and integration with other Epic modules or third-party systems. Patient-Guided Scheduling

Support the design and maintenance of patient-guided scheduling tools for oncology services, including MyChart self-scheduling workflows. Evaluate and optimize self-scheduling pathways to reduce friction and support timely access to care for oncology patients. Partner with patient access teams and oncology operational leaders to streamline the self-scheduling experience, ensuring it integrates seamlessly with oncology care delivery. System Configuration and Maintenance

Configuring and maintaining Epic Beacon tools like flowsheets, smart sets, and clinical notes. Workflow Optimization

Analyzing and optimizing oncology-related workflows within Epic, including scheduling, treatment planning, and documentation. Issue Resolution

Troubleshooting and resolving application incidents reported through the help desk, often involving 24/7 on-call coverage. Testing and Implementation

Participating in testing cycles (unit, system, and integrated) for Epic Beacon and related workflows. Collaboration

Collaborating with clinical staff, physicians, and other stakeholders to gather requirements, translate them into system solutions, and ensure user satisfaction. Training and Support

Providing training and support to end-users on Epic Beacon functionality and workflows. Documentation

Developing and maintaining system design and build documents, as well as user training materials. Preferred Skills

Experience with Epic Beacon, Epic Cadence, and infusion scheduling. Strong understanding of oncology care workflows, including multidisciplinary coordination and treatment scheduling. Experience supporting or building patient self-scheduling solutions. Familiarity with Epic tools like MyChart, Infusion Template Generator, and Appointment Request Workqueues. Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems Management or related field (or equivalent combination of education, training and experience). Licensure/Certification Requirements

Active Epic Beacon certification is required. Professional Experience Requirements

If a Bachelor's degree: Four (4) years of experience with IT systems and/or related operational experience. If an Associate's degree: Six (6) years of IT systems and/or related operational experience. If a High School diploma or GED: Eight (8) years of IT systems and/or related operational experience. Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements

Oncology Knowledge: A strong understanding of oncology clinical workflows, including treatment planning, chemotherapy, scheduling and radiation therapy. Technical Proficiency: Experience with Epic tools like SmartSets, Orders, and Treatment Plans is often expected. Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: The ability to analyze complex business needs, identify system gaps, and develop effective solutions. Communication and Collaboration: Strong communication skills to effectively interact with clinical staff, physicians, and other stakeholders. Project Management Skills: Experience in managing projects related to system enhancements, upgrades, and optimization.
