Job Summary:

The RN manages the successful operation of the Sub Acute Rehabilitation Department, under the leadership of the Director of Nursing (DON). The RN is responsible for the oversight, coaching, and direct supervision of all resident care service providers in the community. The RN management scope includes direct supervision of resident care positions, resident assessment, and management as defined by the Director of Nursing.

Principal Duties/Responsibilities: Explains procedures and treatments to Resident to gain cooperation, understanding, and alleviate apprehension. Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques. Notes time and amount on patients' charts. Knowledgeable of common action, usual dosage, and side effects. Prepares equipment and aids Physician during examination and/or treatment of resident. Maintains awareness of comfort and safety needs of resident. Observes patient, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies supervisor or Physician of patient's condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents. Takes temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs to detect deviations from normal and assess condition of patient. Responds to life saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol. Documents nursing history and physical assessment for assigned patients. Initiates a patient education plan according to the individualized needs of the patient, as prescribed by Physician and/or hospital policy including patient and family instruction. Makes beds, bathes and feeds patients. Participates in department or unit quality improvement activities. May need to respond as appropriate to personal calls from the Independent Living Center. Duties in this setting may include but are not limited to providing First Aid, call emergency personnel (dial 911), and/or call family members at request of Independent Living residents. Maintains compliance to all personnel policies, established community policies and procedures, and Federal and State regulations and standards, including but not limited to HIPAA privacy and confidentiality laws. Provides supervision to LPN's, Certified Nursing Assistants and others as assigned to assure delivery of consistently high-quality care to residents. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor. Education/Experience/Licensure/Certification:

EDUCATION: Graduate of an approved R.N. program (per state requirements). PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE: Minimum 1 to 2 years of experience working as a nurse. Previous experience working with the elderly in a paid or volunteer position highly desirable. CERTIFICATION: Current state license as an R.N. (as required by state regulation). Required Skills/Abilities:

Demonstrates good supervision and management skills & behaviors. Understands and is able to develop Resident Care Service Plan. Understands advanced directives and end-of-life care. Possesses knowledge about the assisted living philosophy. Understands nursing function in assisted living. Understands quality of care objectives. Understands quality of life objectives. Demonstrates knowledge of Benchmark Standards and Practices. Possesses current CPR, First Aid, and Heimlich certification, if required. Demonstrates working knowledge of state regulations. Possess knowledge of policies in the resident handbook. Familiarity and experience using medical related equipment, including but not limited to, blood pressure kit, personal protective equipment (gloves, mask, goggles, etc.) Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to relate in a positive and professional way to a diverse resident and employee population. Ability to be flexible and work in an environment that promotes teamwork and collaboration. Ability to lead, direct and supervise others. Ability to maintain highest level of confidentiality regarding residents, staff and the Community. Demonstrated ability to set priorities, complete assignments in a timely manner while managing multiple duties and responsibilities. Proficient using MS office. Proficient in using state audit compliance tool.
