Description: Composite TechnicianFLSA Status: Non-ExemptReports to: Manufacturing Engineering ManagerComposite Manufacturing Job Purpose:Composite Technician will be producing parts and assemblies for the aerospace, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), motorsport, and other product line industries that are developed at our facility. Work shifts start as early as 6:00 am with a 30-minute lunch. It is preferable that personnel be willing to work night shifts, if needed.Duties and Responsibilities: Fabricate compliant composite components, which will consist of tool preparation, wet ply lamination, prepreg lamination, vacuum bagging, de- tooling, curing, finishing, and core shaping. Understand and comply with expectations and requirements dictated by project schedules, travelers, task orders, work instructions, specs, and/or drawings Monitor, audit, and complete all paperwork, work orders, task orders, material traceability documentation as required Handle perishable materials accordingly Work effectively with engineering and other manufacturing team members to execute projects Identify and select all materials used in assembly process Select and operate various hand and power tools including drills, routers, and sanders Operate cure ovens and understand cure requirements for component parts Follow established safety procedures and be able to understand and follow material safety requirements Visually inspect your own work. Report discrepancies to lead person or supervisor Work in a team environment and be willing to support participative and harmonious working relations with others Must be capable of satisfactorily completing all of the essential functions as determined by supervisor Support and comply with all quality standards and management systems (Swift Internal, NADCAP & AS9100) Elevate issues to management Maintain a neat and orderly work area (e.g. general shop floor, clean room, trimming area Comply with all Company policies, procedures and regulations Tiers for composite technicians:Technician I - $19 - $23/hrExperienced in manufacturing skills set is limited. Require training and experience performing work before they are approved to work on any projects independently. Must be supervised by another composite technician in performing work.Technician II - $25 - $33/hrPerforms work that does not require lead composite technicians. Require full supervision in aid in NADCAP process of manufacturing.Technician III - $25 - $40/hrNADCAP qualified personnel or working directly with qualified personal as training. Depending on complexity of task, work in the cutting area may need a lead technician oversight.Higher (Supervisory) - $30 - $50/hrWORKING CONDITIONSPhysical Demands:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.Equipment Operated: Vacuum pumps, heat sources, special hand tools, ladders, stands, mechanical stands, hi-reach lifts.Work Location: Open shop environment. Occasionally in warehouse. Occasionally in an industrial freezer. May involve exposure to shop environment including variable noise levels.Protective Equipment Required: Goggles, safety glasses, face shields, ear protection, aprons, gloves, safety harnesses, respirators, breathing equipment.Potential Hazards: Exposure to high intensity noise levels, extreme changes in temperature, airborne substances, materials identified on Material Safety Data Sheets, working on unprotected heights or around moving machinery.Periodic weekend or evening work is expected.Requirements Requires a High School Diploma or GED Must have the experience and ability to work independently and lead in the build of complex developmental composites preferred. Provide technical support utilizing planning, engineering drawing and specification to build complex composite parts. Requires directly related and progressively responsible technical experience in the field. Supervisory and administrative skills including the ability to select, appraise, motivate and develop subordinates. Ability to provide effective direction, leadership and team building. Demonstrated abilities to plan, prioritize and delegate work assignments. Interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of management and individual contributors. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Knowledge of design practices, manufacturing techniques and inspection requirements.
