Lead Person Job Description
The Lead Person is responsible for running the production line in a safe, sanitary, cost-effective, and efficient manner that meets the company's quality standards.
Responsibilities
Safety
Document of the pre-shift safety inspection checklist (digital) Ensure that daily checks on powered pallet jacks are performed, and paperwork is completed Conduct and document safety observations and report any hazardous conditions (digital) Promote a safe work environment and contribute to engaging members of the team to work safely, and actively participate in the Company's Safety Observation Program Maintain a clean and safe work environment by maintaining and reinforcing proper housekeeping Comply and reinforce the Company's Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) standards Work in a safe and efficient manner adhering to the company's safety and quality policies and procedures by setting with the example Beginning of Shift
Place associates in the correct spot and provide the game plan for the day (huddle meeting) Setup line according to schedule (correct die, recipe, filler block, harp, etc.) Ensure equipment is set up to maintain the required productivity levels without compromising safety and/or quality (equipment guards are on and correct throughout the line) Verify that the tunnel is ON, and settings are correct for the application (ex. speed, temp, others) Speed is calculated by the CPM divided by rows Ensure the shipping boxes are correct and adjusted to the CDP before product is coming down the line Ensure that Pattyn HMI settings match the product specification prior to starting the line, adjust the settings as needed and verify changes made (if any) with quality department Ensure that decuffer settings match the setpoints Ensure the taper machine is adjusted to size of the boxes Make sure to print Product Specification for each product is present before line starts operating Communicates with maintenance about any issue from the previous day to see if it was addressed During a product run
Ensure mixing at least 1 bowl of dough ahead of Dough depositor before starting depositing Ensure operator have paper setup for roll change Ensure at least one new wire is available to be installed. Ensure the operator has at least one spare wire clip also Validate that the operators are adhering to cookie shape & weights specifications Validate and monitor the speed of tunnel and exhaust settings. Ensure exhaust fumes are defrosted, and fog is not exciting the tunnel Ensure all conveyors are transferring products smoothly and they don't lose the alignment Ensure case erector and bag inserter are set up correctly (bags should be tear off, bag is fully inserted and pulled over all 4 corners of the box, the case is formed squarely) Ensure decuffer is set up correctly. Pulling all 4 corners off the box and folding bag into case Ensure case chute is adjusted correctly. Check each side rail adjustment to ensure it is directing cases correctly Ensure CDP is dropping layers correctly Ensure taper and labeler are functioning correctly Ensure cases are entering and exiting lift without any issues Ensure that Quality Standards and quality control points are maintained and verified. Report any Quality issues in a timely manner and be available to help with quality investigation and corrective actions implementation and reinforcement Verify that the monitoring of the metal detector is executed as per the HACCP Plan Coordinate and control associates' breaks and follow up to ensure associates are adhering to allocated times. Provide production updates via email throughout the day, describing line status, downtime and actions taken, if applicable Demonstrate ability to understand production needs and be able to prioritize tasks based on that. Ensure that all GMP and safety standards are in compliance Cover for breaks as necessary Changeover
Ensure the die is ready 30 mins prior to any washdown/changeover If doing a washdown, try to have breaks/lunch completed before starting up again to ensure that all hands are on the floor Have tools ready for washdown... Locks, cleaning equipment, etc. Communicate any issue to maintenance/supervisor to be completed during downtime Verify that SKU is ready prior to startup If possible, increase tunnel temperature to defrost any ice build up End of Shift
Ensure that all is equipment are off Ensure that the operators are leaving the working station is free of organic matter (hoppers scrapped, no garbage, etc.) Write down/communicate any issues that can be addressed after production via email or verbal Verify the utensils are correct for the following day if communicated that we are running a special product (ex. inserts, die, filler block) Document production information via daily systems logs Document and report production downtime accurately. Monitor equipment in operation to identify potential issues and/or mechanical failures, adjust as needed and/or report timely
Knowledge/Skills/Experience: • High School Diploma or GED. • At least 3 years of experience in a food-processing, pharmaceutical or chemical manufacturing organization • Working knowledge of FDA regulations, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), sanitation processes/procedures and HACCP • Demonstrate understanding of production scheduling and other production variables such as run-rates, processing times, change-over times, etc. • Know how to operate all machinery (APV, Vemag, Pattyn, GENERIC1, GENERIC 2) as necessary • Demonstrate ability to direct, coach, and train associates as well as plan, monitor and schedule work • Demonstrate ability to analyze and resolve problems • Demonstrate mechanical and spatial aptitude, including the ability to disassemble and reassemble equipment • Speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; listens and gets clarification; responds well to questions • Ability to balance team and individual responsibilities; Exhibits objectivity and openness to others' views; Gives and welcomes feedback; Contributes to building a positive team spirit; Supports everyone's efforts to succeed • Show respect and sensitivity for cultural differences; promotes a harassment-free environment. • Treat people with respect; Keeps commitments; inspires the trust of others; Works with integrity and ethically; Upholds organizational values. Will be required to see and hear well enough to understand Associates questions and respond to their concerns. Will be required to work in freezers, near noisy machinery, near confined spaces as part of daily production activities.
