Broom Assembler - Broom Machine Operator

in its Broom Department in Richmond, VA.

Under immediate supervision, the broom assembler - broom machine operator is responsible for assembling multiple broom types from provided parts and pieces using automated machinery.

Essential Functions of the Job:

Assemble various types of brooms from provided parts and pieces of various sizes and materials

Perform maintenance checks on machines

Using a welder, tack metal bristles to frames (wafers) of replacement broom

Adhere to all safety policies and procedures.

Wear appropriate PPE

Meet daily production amounts

Attention to quality

May review materials on hand to insure have materials needed for the daily production, may stage pre-production materials and post-production product for pick up by material handler.

Basic math skills, able to read a tape measure accurately (American system) in order to produce product to customer and company expectations

Ability to learn basic welding - tack and MIG weld to adhere material to wafer or broom roll

Use electronic crane

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's):

Ability to use hand and power tools

Positive team-based attitude and willingness to cross train on machinery within the facility

Ability to adhere to company safety expectations and wear required PPE

Ability to multitask in fast-paced production environment

Ability to work as part of a team

Ability to drive a forklift

Ability to use a power tools such as an electric drill

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or GED certificate helpful

1 to 3 years' prior experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment using manual assembly techniques preferred

Able to understand English

Working Conditions:

The following activities are required up to 100% of a typical day:

Stand, walk on concrete service

Use hands or fingers to handle or feel

Reach with hands and arms

Talk, hear

Lift, pull and push up to 35 pounds unassisted

Work near moving mechanical parts

The following activities are required up to 50% of a typical day:

Stoop, kneel and crouch

Lift, pull and push 36 to 100 pounds with assistance

Work near fumes or airborne particles

Work near vibrating equipment

Position has the following vision requirements:

Must be able to distinguish colors and shades of color

Work performed in a loud manufacturing environment.

Work in wet or humid conditions (non-weather)

Notes:

In addition to Broom Machine, additional machinery used includes forklift, electric drill, MIG welder, former, rollers.
