Description The Security Division of Information Services is seeking a well-qualified individual for the position of
IS Systems Specialist II . This position reports to the Security Division Director. The IS Systems Specialist II is responsible for configuring and managing authentication platforms and identity management systems, ranging from routine tasks to complex solutions. This position requires journey-level expertise in Active Directory, including administration across multiple domains and forests, with a minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience. The administrator will be responsible for the creation, modification, and deactivation of user and group accounts in Active Directory, ensuring secure and efficient identity management across the organization. Additionally, the position supports the administration and tracking of various cybersecurity platforms, including but not limited to cloud-based identity services, vulnerability management tools, and anti-malware solutions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of identity and authentication platforms. Administer Active Directory across multiple domains and forests, including managing users, groups, policies, and permissions. Construct, deconstruct, and modify user and group access levels in accordance with security protocols and organizational policies. Support the administration of cloud-based identity services (e.g., Azure AD, Okta). Assist in the deployment and monitoring of vulnerability management systems. Manage and monitor anti-malware and endpoint protection tools to ensure enterprise-wide coverage. Maintain detailed and accurate documentation of system configurations, procedures, and incident response actions. Collaborate with cybersecurity, IT operations, and compliance teams to ensure alignment with security standards and regulatory requirements. Provide technical support for identity-related issues and service requests. Stay current on industry best practices and emerging technologies in identity and access management (IAM).
The
ideal candidate
will possess:
Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field; or equivalent work experience. At least two (2) years of hands-on experience with Active Directory in a multi-domain and multi-forest environment. Proficiency in configuring and administering identity management systems. Experience with security platforms such as cloud identity services, anti-malware, and vulnerability management tools. Strong understanding of authentication protocols, group policy management, and role-based access control (RBAC).
Qualifications
Knowledge of:
Principles of computer operating systems, enterprise infrastructure, and peripheral components. Principles and practices of maintaining virtualization technologies. Principles and practices of using system monitoring tools. Principles and practices of configuring and implementing system backup solutions. Education and Experience: Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify would be:
Education: Graduation from a four-year college or equivalent technical certification with coursework in computer science, information systems, or closely related field.
Experience: IS Systems Specialist I: One (1) year of experience in supporting and implementing information technology systems specific to the specialty area assigned which includes identity and access management, data center management, IT facilities management, storage and backup, server management and server operating systems, and/or configuration management and event management.
IS Systems Specialist II: Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in supporting and implementing information technology systems, equivalent to an IS Systems Specialist I at the County of San Mateo and specific to the specialty area assigned which could include data center management, IT facilities management, storage and backup, server management and server operating systems, and/or configuration management and event management.
Physical Demands Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. Standing in and walking between work areas is frequently required. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate standard office equipment. Positions in this classification frequently bend, stoop, kneel, and reach to perform assigned duties, as well as push and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information. Employees must possess the ability to lift and carry materials and objects up to 50 pounds with the use of proper equipment and push and pull materials and objects up to 100 pounds with the use of proper equipment.
