Day Job Summary: The Network Planning Engineer is responsible for creating comprehensive deployment plans for Ciena NGO DWDM transport routes, managing tactical planning activities, evaluating infrastructure upgrades, and ensuring seamless network expansion. The role involves close coordination with cross-functional teams, adherence to standards, and continuous process improvement to support network growth and operational efficiency.
Role & Responsibilities: Develop detailed planning packages supporting the deployment of Ciena NGO DWDM transport routes, including technical specifications and installation requirements. Manage diverse tactical planning tasks such as node expansions, audits, and equipment changes submitted by Strategic Planners. Evaluate and formulate removal strategies for legacy network infrastructure, aiming to minimize service disruptions. Engineer expansions to existing nodes by assessing available chassis slots and planning appropriate hardware configurations. Strategize and document the insertion of new nodes into the optical network, ensuring alignment with network growth and service demands. Verify equipment, circuits, and associated customer details at target locations; provide monthly reports on recurring revenue per site. Coordinate closely with cross-functional teams to validate network designs, align project deliverables, and ensure successful deployment execution. Update tracking tools, databases, and records with finalized plans, issued netbuilds, audit findings, and related documentation. Ensure all planning activities comply with network design standards, internal documentation protocols, and operational workflows. Stay adaptable to process changes and other evolving requirements within the planning framework. Leverage expertise to lead and deliver major projects within set deadlines. Identify process gaps, recommend improvements, and contribute to team efficiency. Mentor and guide other planners on prioritization and best practices within the team. Actively participate in driving organizational change and process enhancements. Understand the interdependencies among platforms and departments, ensuring coordinated planning and execution. Produce clear, concise communication including problem statements, requirements, and recommendations.
Required Qualifications: Proven experience in optical network planning, deployment, or related roles. Strong understanding of DWDM technology, network infrastructure, and hardware configurations. Excellent coordination, communication, and documentation skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to changing priorities. Leadership qualities with the ability to mentor team members. Proactive approach to process improvement and problem-solving.
