ROLE SUMMARY:
Directs all engineering functions, leading a multi-disciplinary team of design, applications, and manufacturing engineers and technicians. Accountable for on-time, on-budget delivery of critical technical projects, including new product development, customer-specific product tailoring, and continuous improvement of product cost and quality. Establishes team goals, manages budgets, and develops project plans to meet growth objectives. As a vital member of the Senior Leadership Team, they also help shape the company's strategy.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead engineering in new product development, cost-quality continuous improvement and applications initiatives, providing oversight and project guidance to ensure timely project delivery Translate customer insights into actionable technical requirements, working cross-functionally to scope engineering projects for success Support lean manufacturing cost, quality, and speed initiatives on the factory floor, working closely with Operations team to improve processes Coach and develop engineers and technicians to increase technical proficiency, project management, and communication skills Collaborate with Sales, Product Management, and President / CEO on multi-year product line roadmaps and strategy, ensuring critical technical resources and capability to deliver objectives Maintain product certifications and regulatory compliance, ensuring deep team understanding of requirements and upcoming changes Coordinate patent filings and maintenance Develop and manage Engineering budget, including product testing and certification costs QUALIFICATIONS:
Strong evidence of hands-on technical leadership and project management in a fast-paced environment Demonstrated bias for action and repeated ability to achieve targeted deadlines Track record of successful collaboration with manufacturing on DFM (design-for-manufacturing) and product launch - ramp Proven ability to build teams, developing technical skills and project management capabilities across diverse engineering backgrounds Clear and direct communicator within and across teams, translating business imperatives to practical implications and actions EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Six (6) or more years experience in engineering leadership, with demonstrated roles of increasing scope and responsibility; previous Director experience highly preferred Knowledge of extruded metals (Aluminum), hardware, construction methods and standards highly preferred Experience in security products, specialty construction, door or window systems, or other architectural product markets preferred Hurricane protection product knowledge a plus Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar, Masters preferred COMPUTER SKILLS:
Proficiency with applicable software such as MSOffice, AutoCad, and AutoDesk Inventor or SolidWorks Experience with product configurators a plus COMPENSATION:
