Meter Tester
Union $35.46 Per Hour
SUMMARY: Provides meter related services to business units (internal) and external customers. These services include installation, inspection, repairs, testing, calibration of single-phase and poly-phase watt-hour and demand meters.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Inspects, cleans, installs, tests, repairs, and calibrates single-phase and ploy-phase watt-hour and demand meters on circuits of various voltages Connects test equipment in circuit with meter and performs site verification analysis Assists in maintaining database records for meter testing and meter site verification Provides metering assistance for high bill complaint testing and resolution Verifies electronic meter programming and programs electronic meters with existing meter programs Assists in the testing of shop and working standards and maintaining records of testing Assists in the shipping and receiving of meters and equipment between the Centralized Meter Test Ship and business
COMPETENCIES: Experience in single-phase and poly-phase watt-hour and demand meter testing and applications Experience in meter programming
QUALIFICATIONS MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) with three to five years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the discipline.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must possess current, legally valid driver's license and meet the Company's driving record requirements.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
COMPUTER SKILLS: Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database software
ANALYSIS AND PROBLEM-SOLVING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand and walk. Regularly required to bend, reach, and work from elevated heights. Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Outside construction and meter shop environments.
