Overview

Educate and enforce the City ordinances pertaining to City maintained beaches and City parks. Respond to citizen concerns and patrol a specifically assigned area to proactively identify violations in City Parks, Beaches and public spaces. Educate the public concerning park and beach maintenance as well as proper disposal of waste in the park system. Generate written and photographic documentation of violations to attain civil abatement and provide evidence in criminal proceedings against violators when there is failure to comply.

Responsibilities • Conduct patrols in designated areas for ordinance violations by the public • Patrol parks, beaches, and public spaces for violations such as illegal dumping, littering and other ordinances violations, photograph violations, record evidence for each case • Communicate daily with citizens and educate the public regarding park and beach rules, and ordinances rule • Issue citations for park and beach related ordinance violations within the park system • Enforce Beach Parking permit requirements, sell Beach Parking Permits and/or monitors Beach/Park Camping • Document all park and beach related citations, attach violation narratives and photos to case files • Prepare case documents and citations for charges filed in municipal court and testify, when necessary, on behalf of the City of Corpus Christi • Coordinate efforts with other departments to assist with park and beach related ordinance violations. Partnerships include Police Department, Fire Department and City's Legal Department • Participate in Park community meetings, flyer distribution, parade foot patrol, City Park and beach sponsored functions and special events such as Spring Break, Holiday events and other special events • Issue citations for littering violations at special events and assist with traffic control when needed • Must be able to safely operate a city vehicle • Responsible for all minor maintenance of assigned vehicle, including washing the vehicle exterior and interior, adding fluids, etc. and complete daily inspections log

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work • Non-Exempt - Full-Time • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement • In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services.

Minimum Qualifications • Associate's degree or 2-year technical certificate • Two (2) years of experience in Code Enforcement, Law Enforcement or Public Safety • Equivalent combination of High School Diploma/GED and four (4) years of experience in Code Enforcement, Law Enforcement or Public Safety may be considered

Licenses and Certifications

Required • A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Required within one (1) year of hire • CPR, First Aid, AED certification

Basis of Rating

A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
