DESCRIPTION

Inspects electrical installations for compliance with state, city and other applicable codes and regulations; performs related duties as required. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Makes inspections of new wiring and electrical installations in residences, businesses, public, and other buildings. Performs plan reviews and makes calculations for State statute and National Code Compliance. Assists superior in advising and assisting contractors, builders, and the public in making applications for electrical installations. Investigate construction projects to see that wiring installations are being properly made and that the necessary licenses and permits to do so have been obtained. As assigned, makes investigations of accidents and fires reported to have been of electrical origin; inspects and enforces the correction of hazardous wiring reported by the Fire Department or others. Investigates and makes reports on routine complaints, special assignments, illegal electrical installations and other inspections; notifies contractors and owners of violations and performs re-inspection to ensure that the necessary corrections are being made. Assists in revising, updating and conducting examinations for Journey and Master Electrician's license. As assigned serves as the Secretary of the Municipal Electrical Examining Board. Performs office duties and maintains records as directed by an employee of higher level who assigns and reviews work for effectiveness. MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS

Two (2) years of full-time paid work experience as a licensed journey electrician OR possession State of Michigan Master Electrician License. Considerable and responsible experience in electrical work on a wide variety of installations. Considerable knowledge of the methods and practices involved in constructing, installing, maintaining and operating a variety of electrical systems, equipment, appliances, and of standard testing devices. Working knowledge of statutes, ordinances and codes required or recommended by local, state, and national authorities. Ability to apply sound inspection methods to the detection of poor workmanship or materials in electrical installations. Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with electrical contractors and with the general public. Skill and proficiency in electrical installations of a journey level.

NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS: • Possession of a State of Michigan Electrical Inspectors and Plan Review License or the ability to obtain within 90 days of employment. • Registrations and become registered within three (3) years of provisional registration. • Possession of a valid Michigan Driver's License at time of appointment. • Employee may be required to provide own transportation.
