Location: Hemet, CA Department: Engineering / CAD Reports To: Vice President of Engineering Job Type: Full-Time (Mon-Thurs, 6:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.) Pay Range: $37,440 - $60,000/year (DOE) FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly detail-oriented Steel Shop Drawing Checker with deep expertise in structural steel and miscellaneous metal detailing. In this role, you will be responsible for reviewing and marking up shop and erection drawings to ensure accuracy, completeness, and strict compliance with industry standards (AISC, AWS, AWWA, API) and project-specific contract documents. This position is ideal for someone with strong AutoCAD skills, a solid grasp of steel fabrication processes, and the ability to manage a high volume of detailed review work.

Key Responsibilities

Review and mark up shop and erection drawings for:

Drafting accuracy Industry code compliance Adherence to contract drawings/specs

Interpret and verify contract plans and structural documents Check all dimensions, tolerances, weld symbols, material specs, and assembly instructions Collaborate with engineering, CAD, and detailing teams to provide clear and constructive feedback Maintain and update drawing archives and standard detail libraries Prevent recurrence of drafting errors by updating company standards Manage review of up to 40 drawings per day across 7-8 simultaneous projects Required Qualifications

Minimum 5 years of experience in structural steel or miscellaneous metal detailing and checking Proven track record of reviewing and redlining other drafters' drawings Expert-level proficiency with AutoCAD Deep understanding of structural steel fabrication, erection, welding processes, and weld callouts Ability to interpret and cross-check contract drawings, shop drawings, and erection plans Strong attention to detail in high-volume environments Excellent verbal and written communication skills Preferred Qualifications

Experience using Adobe Acrobat for markups and drawing reviews Candidates with slightly less than 5 years of experience may be considered if they demonstrate advanced skills and technical knowledge Schedule & Work Environment

4/10 Workweek: Monday-Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Overtime Available Benefits
