Job Title: Drug Discovery Automation Software Engineer
Excelsior Sciences of New York is transforming small molecule therapeutic drug discovery with the use of modular chemistry, to make better medicines fast. Excelsior's modular approach leverages smart blocks as the foundation of drug design and synthesis. Our smart blocks and proprietary methodologies enable chemistry that machines can do, rather than building machines that attempt to do chemistry as it is practiced today. By coupling our automated synthesis and testing, we can reduce the design-make-test-analyze cycle to two weeks. This rapid generation of high-quality data allows us to fully leverage AI/ML to create closed learning loops and conduct multiparameter optimization, resulting in better medicines, fast. Excelsior's operations are fully U.S.-based, as our automated approach enables us to onshore integrated drug discovery. We are seeking a skilled software engineer with a deep understanding of laboratory automation and informatics systems leverage in drug discovery to be part of a collaborative cross-functional team working closely with our scientists. The ideal candidate will have exceptional problem-solving abilities, and a passion for leveraging technology to make a tangible impact. Your role will involve developing software solutions to support automated lab workflows, managing data, and integrating technologies like AI/ML. Key Responsibilities
Work collaboratively with scientists, AI experts and automation engineers to build, deploy and maintain software tools that automate various lab processes. Contribute to the development and implementation of data management strategies to support automated drug discovery projects. Integrate diverse data sources and informatics tools to create new solutions which facilitate holistic analysis and decision-making. Stay updated on emerging automation, informatics and software tools relevant to early drug discovery. Provide training and support to research staff on informatics tools and best practices. Participate in cross-functional meetings to align informatics and automation efforts with project goals. Coordinate activities with external partners in academia and industry. Maintain the highest level of scientific rigor and professionalism within our organization. Key Skills & Experiences
BS or MS in the life sciences, computer sciences, or a related field is required. A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in software development related to laboratory automation, ideally in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry. Must be proficient in modern programming languages like Python, JavaScript, C#, and/or R with a strong understanding of database systems (i.e, Oracle, SQL Server). Familiarity with best practices for software development is expected. Experience with LIMS, ELNs, digital orchestration software, and cloud platforms for data management as well as software automation/integration tools (i.e, REST API, SOAP) is an advantage. A strong understanding of automation technologies and familiarity with lab instrumentation is important. The role needs the ability to troubleshoot and requires strong communication and collaboration skills, and adaptability to a fast-paced environment. Capability to manage multiple projects simultaneously Ability to work independently and as part of a team The salary range for this position is $130,000- $210,000 per year. The actual compensation offered will be based on factors such as relevant experience, education, and skills.
