A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A PAVEMENT MARKING OPERATOR
As a
Pavement Marking Operator , you will play a vital role in the installation, maintenance, and repair of pavement markings across Wisconsin. You will be responsible for preparing work areas, unloading and transporting materials, and operating various types of pavement marking equipment. This includes tasks such as applying epoxy striping, thermoplastic, MMA, and permanent tape. You will need to follow engineering plans closely to ensure precise application and ensure the work meets industry standards.
You will be involved in reading and interpreting blueprints, assisting in the layout of roadways for marking, and performing routine maintenance on equipment and vehicles. Additionally, you will be responsible for keeping job logs accurate and up to date, ensuring tasks are completed within deadlines, and consistently maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and professionalism.
As part of the team, you will communicate directly with your supervisor to update them on job progress and follow company procedures for daily equipment inspections, ensuring all vehicles and machinery are in working order. A key aspect of your role is the ability to adapt to a range of tasks and work in varying environmental conditions.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent. You must obtain a Class B CDL license within 12 months of employment (including possible Hazmat and Tanker endorsements) and maintain an excellent driving record. You should be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds repetitively and perform tasks that involve reaching overhead, bending, kneeling, and twisting. Comfort working in outdoor environments and extreme weather conditions is essential, as is the ability to walk long distances and drive for extended periods.
Flexibility is key, as you will be expected to work varying shifts, including nights, weekends, and occasional overnight travel. You must be willing to work near traffic and in potentially hazardous conditions. Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate closely with the team are necessary, as well as the ability to operate and maintain commercial vehicles and pavement marking equipment safely. A commitment to following company policies, procedures, and safety protocols is also required.
