About the Role
We're seeking a skilled Senior IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) Engineer with expertise in real-time data streaming, telemetry systems, and MQTT-based communication protocols. You'll lead the design and implementation of scalable telemetry pipelines and edge-to-cloud integrations, playing a key role in securing and optimizing industrial data flow.
What You'll Do
Design and maintain real-time data pipelines and telemetry systems for industrial IoT devices. Serve as a subject matter expert in MQTT architecture, including QoS, retained messages, persistent sessions, and LWT. Build and secure MQTT communications, including TLS/SSL, certificates, authentication, and authorization. Create efficient topic hierarchies and optimize MQTT publish/subscribe models to meet diverse customer needs. Diagnose issues across the full data pipeline-from edge device connectivity to broker performance. Configure and troubleshoot MQTT brokers (e.g., Mosquitto, HiveMQ, EMQX), including clustering and performance tuning. Implement and optimize data acquisition strategies, including polling, event-driven, and subscription-based methods. Train junior engineers and document best practices for telemetry and xIoT systems. Leverage industrial protocols and devices including PLCs, Modbus, and OPC UA. Store and analyze data using time-series databases such as InfluxDB. Partner with internal stakeholders to audit stale data and remediate flow issues. What You'll Need
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience. 3+ years of progressive experience in IT systems administration, software development, or telemetry engineering. Proven experience with MQTT brokers, including security, clustering, and configuration. Familiarity with industrial edge devices and protocols. Strong scripting skills in Python; proficiency in Golang preferred. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills. Ability to manage competing priorities and lead initiatives independently. Preferred Qualifications
Certification in MQTT or OPC UA architecture. Experience in data center or industrial automation environments. Background in telemetry design, edge computing, and real-time streaming analytics. What You Bring
