Summary:

The Safety Manager leads the strategic oversight of transportation safety and compliance operations, ensuring alignment with federal, state, and local regulations. This role plays a key part in cultivating a culture of safety, overseeing driver training, conducting risk assessments, and managing DOT compliance across the organization. With a firm command of FMCSA, DOT, and OSHA standards, the Safety Manager drives initiatives that reduce risk, improve operational efficiency, and foster continuous improvement. This leadership role also manages a dedicated safety team and partners cross-functionally with operations, dispatch, and maintenance teams to uphold the company's safety-first mission.

What you'll do: • Lead the safety culture for P2D Transport through the ongoing development and management of our safety programs, in collaboration with all stakeholders. Providing regular council, coaching, mentorship, and direction. • Foster a positive, accountable culture rooted in proactive safety practices. • Support recruitment, onboarding, and driving test review processes for new hires. • Ensure full compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and state/local transportation regulations. • Manage all compliance monitoring systems, including CDL/medical card expirations, CSA point tracking, Post-Accident, and random drug and alcohol screening programs. • Oversee and audit Hours of Service (HOS), ELD usage, and unassigned drive time logs. • Design and execute new hire onboarding and ongoing driver training programs, including quarterly training and annual recertifications. • Utilize tools like the J.J. Keller Safety App for learning module assignments and progress tracking. • Implement and manage 30/60/90-day training assessments and JSAs (Job Safety Analyses • Lead and oversee accident, incident, and injury investigations, including cause analysis, documentation, and corrective action plans. • Manage safety event reviews and develop appropriate post-event training and disciplinary action as needed. • Conduct regular safety meetings, audits, and daily/weekly/monthly briefings across all terminals. • Conduct facility walkthroughs, yard inspections, and road observations to identify hazards. • Implement proactive accident and injury prevention strategies through PPE programs, SOPs, and equipment usage training. • Maintain an effective observation and red-tagging process for bad-order equipment. • Establish and track safety KPIs (e.g., roadside inspection outcomes, incident-free miles/days). • Provide routine reporting to senior leadership and recommend continuous improvement actions based on trend analysis. • Monitor monthly maintenance reports, safety audits, and Samsara-based trip inspection data. • Develop and maintain emergency response plans tailored to transportation-related incidents. • Lead preparedness exercises and coordinate appropriate responses with internal stakeholders. • Write, update, and enforce policies related to accident response, MVR reviews, HOS violations, and distracted driving. • Manage a comprehensive equipment inspection program covering trucks, containers, chassis, and trailing equipment. • Oversee supply distribution including safety gear, accident kits, and vehicle maintenance tools. • Reinforce safety engagement through individualized coaching and monthly recognition for clean records and safety milestones. • Develop safety campaigns around seasonal topics and maintain ongoing driver communications.

What you'll have: • Bachelor's degree in Transportation, Safety, Logistics, or a related field (preferred); high school diploma or equivalent required. • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in transportation safety, DOT compliance, or fleet management • Demonstrated leadership experience managing safety programs and personnel • In-depth knowledge of FMCSA, DOT, OSHA regulations, and CSA scoring systems • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills • Experience with ELD systems (e.g., Samsara), safety management software, and compliance reporting tools • Ability to train and influence CDL drivers and frontline employees across varying experience levels • Valid driver's license required; CDL is a plus • Flexibility for occasional evening, weekend, or travel-related work based on safety events
